I was fortunate enough to type "teacher forum" into Google one day.
How did you find AtoZ?
I was searching for something for one of my education classes back in college... probably lesson plan ideas or something. Search led me to one of the ideas pages, and then my curiosity brought me to the "discuss" link... the rest is history
I really can't remember. I think I was trying to find some mini books for my class and stumbled upon the site.
I was looking for help on my resume...lol
I was researching something over the summer for my classroom (I don't really remember what) and come across the forums. I've been hooked ever since.
2nd fun question... How long did you "hover" before joining or posting?
I posted day 1
Same as others have said; I was looking for lesson plans ideas and found the forums. I think that it took me a couple of days to join and post, but not long. I've never looked back.
Posted day 1...just celebrated 3 years a couple of months ago.
Hah! It's like an anniversary (and I agree too!).
My story is kinda nerdy -- I'm over compulsive about knowing "everything" about anything before I dive in.
I thought a forum with real teacher would give me that experience that no book could.
I was right.
I've now "studied" this forum for over a year now, and I find it paying dividends during my student teaching.
I used to frequent another message board, www.theknot.com, while I was planning my wedding, then its sister site www.thenest.com after I got married. There were lots of teachers on those two sites and someone recommended this place. I stopped by to check it out and loved that people seemed nice and not snarky!
I belonged to a now-defunct substitute web site that talked about this forum a lot. When I started applying to teach full time, I left the subbing site and sought out this one. SO glad I did so!
I landed here when the forums closed at abcteach.com. I think I'm the only homeschooler from that bunch to come back here after Amanda created Homeschoolspot. I don't think I ever 'hovered', but I do believe I've been a member since '03 or '04.
I wanted to join a forum, my DD had suggested the Purse Forum and it was ok, but I typed in "Teacher Forum" and this is one of the ones that came up. It's the most active and proactive. I just love it!
Being able to get wise, well-informed advice in a matter of minutes is what keeps me coming back to this place.
Also, you can really feel the "teacher" atmosphere of this place. It's as if Amanda has created a virtual teacher's lounge.
Oh boy, I don't even know. I was a college senior a few months away from starting my "block" of core education classes, so I was probably looking for something related to that. June will make 6 years since I joined and I think I started posting right away.
A very cool coworker/teacher was online one afternoon and said "hey, check this out. These teachers have some wonderful ideas, you should join." It took me a year but I eventually ended up joining and enjoying sharing.
Google search, and what an amazing find!
I pretty much did the same thing!
I found it way back like in 03 when I was still in college working towards my BS degree. I was looking up worksheets or soemhting like that for my class.
I didn't even know about the forum part though. I only looked through the lesson plan and the printable page.
I found this site again in 2006 and checked out the forum.
My first post was me starting a thread asking how to remove the sticky stuff from water bottles.
I use to frequent ProTeacher, but really wasn't happy with the owner. I liked the discussion aspect, though, so I looked for another one. Luuuuuv A-Z!

I was doing some research on using iPods in the classroom and stumbled across the site.
I think I was looking up something about looking for teaching jobs and found the job seeker part of this forum. It took me about five months of looking at this forum every once in awhile before I joined and I've been hooked ever since!
I googled for some information during one of my college classes and frequented the site for information after that. I didn't join as a member until almost the end of my 1st year of teaching.
I came across this site while searching for lesson plan ideas during my sophomore year. I joined after lurking on the boards for about a month. I posted occasionally during college, and a lot during my first year of teaching!! I've been a member for 5 1/2 years--that doesn't seem possible!
I was looking for lesson plans and just happened to see the "discuss" tab on top so I clicked on it and found the forum! I didn't join right away either.
It was so long ago that I can't remember. I was a "guest" (when they used to have that) on here before I actually signed up which was in 2003

I think that I was doing a Google search and came across the board when an answer popped up. I think I probably was just curious and it went from there. Boy, am I glad that it did! I love this board!

I used to refer to the list of "Themes" a lot (actually still do) and clicked on "Discuss". I read the posts for awhile before actually signing up. I don't even remember what the question was, but I must have felt like I had something to offer, probably had been in the same situation myself. I adore this site!
