Gotta love those small midwestern schools. We have one building, pre-K through 12th grade and serve about 400 students. Our elementary and high school are technically separate schools with their own principals. I love being in the same building as my own children. Our district office consists of our super, his secretary, and a bookkeeper.

WOW!!! I cannot even fathom districts that size! I knew there were big districts in the big cities, but I never once considered the sheer numbers you are mentioning! Thousands of staff??? No way...

I teach in a rural district, all on one campus, connected buildings, but each has it's own administration. We have 1 elementary, 1 middle, and 1 high school. Total students about 1300. There are 4 building admins, 3 guidance, 1 superintendant, his secretary & the treasurer. There are probably about 100 teachers total. There are 5 other districts in the same county.

I would never be able to work in a district that large. We are one building for PK-8 and have about 600 kids and 68 teachers.

We have somewhere between 600,000 and 700,000 students. It's crazy. I think we're the second largest in the U.S.

We have 13 elem. schools, used to be 16 elem schools, but beginning next year 4 schools closed to make one new school. Six middle schools, 1 alternative, and six high schools.

I had to look this up, because I had no clue. I know we have 78 elementary schools....but I didn't know we have 78,500 students. and 5600 teachers.

This fall we will have 14 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, 3 high schools plus the alternative school, over 19,000 students. The county I moved from in the midwest (where I grew up and attended school) was 3 elementary schools, 1 middle school and 1 high school. Definitely culture shock @ first.

The district that I taught in had one elementary and middle school (which were in the same building) and one high school. Each grade has about 65 students and there are about 50 teachers.

The district that I am subbing in (and that I went to) has five elementary, one middle, one junior high and one high. Each grade has about 450 students and I'm not sure how many teachers there are.

Size-wise, my division is HUGE. We're bigger then many small European countries, including Belgium. We have approximately 6600 students, 62 schools (though just under half of those are Hutterite Colony Schools) and 1200 employees.

I just found data that my district (with the 78,500 students) is one of the biggest 50 districts in the country, and the 5th largest in our state.

I think the way various areas define "district" is interesting. Here, all schools within a county are in the same district, under one school board. But, then again, I'm on the east coast in a highly populated area...it's not like you'd have to drive an hour (or even 10 minutes, lol) within the same county before you came to another school. We have some schools that are so close, you literally can walk between them - they're only a half mile or so apart. And both of them will have populations of 300+ kids.

kim~it is interesting to see the different ways schools are divided up. Here in TX, each town/city that's big enough has its own district. Towns that don't have a large enough population goes to the neighboring school district.

The district I am in now has 62000 students in 64 schools. I student taught in a 1 school district with just over 100 kids. Big difference, but I think it's more about the school community than the district community.

We have about 10,000 students, 1,200 staff approx. Yes, I feel a bit lost and this is my 15 year here. We have 9 elementary buildings so we never get to meet with our other 3rd grade teachers. This part may not be true but it seems we are always under more pressure to score high on tests than some of the smaller schools according to the teachers we talk to.

Our district is small. We have a pre-K/K school, two 1-5 elementary schools, one 6-8 middle school, and one 9-12 high school.

Each grade level averages between 150-210 students.

10,000 students, 1,100 staff. I taught at two smaller districts before this one. It seems the one I am in now has more to prove and is harder to teach in.
