I'm curious... How many students do you have in your preschool class? Do you have an assistant, or no assistant? My answer: I have about 14 regular kids, but often have up to 20 due to shifting kids because of center ratios. Those extra six make a big difference, because my usual kids know the routine, but the extras don't. I have an assistant if I go over 10.
I have 6 in the morning and when the rest come back from the public school preschool program, there are about 12…one teacher is there (I go home.) When they combine with the other class at the end of the day, that's when the chaos starts. We have limited play areas and planned art activities to help alleviate some of the problems. It's still a tough time of the day for the late afternoon teacher.
I have 19 in my morning class and 19 in my afternoon class. So, 38 total. I have 2 paras in the morning and 1 para and 1 nurse in the afternoon. It sounds like a lot of help, but I swear I still feel like I need 20 more hands
I have 8 on my roster, but some of them are part time kids. So, the count varies between 6-8 each day, more if someone is sick. I don't have an assistant. Transitions are really tough without two grownups.
Class size I currently have 17 in a class designed for 20 with a aide who works with me everyday. My 17 are a handful and more than make up for the three I don't have.
We have 6 enrolled and average 4-6 kids each day. There are almost always two of us (we have a co-teaching environment). It's certainly an improvement on the class of 16 I had at a previous center, but we have some very active kids so some days it feels like we have way more than 6.
The new preschool teacher that took my old class as 26 total (5 typical peers and 21 SPE) with an average of 20 or 21 daily with 3 aides. O-V-E-R-C-R-O-W-D-E-D is an understatement. I'm glad I got out of that room. It was too much for me.
I don't teach pre-school now, but when I did I had 20 most days and 18 once in a while. There were always 2 teachers in the room, I was the lead teacher and then there would be a second teacher as well.
We'd have two classes with 18 enrolled combined but days vary with some. The most each teacher will have is 8 on a give. Day somedays 2-4
I have 24 kids (full day Pre-K) and and one aide. Most of my kids are sweet, but at least 5 are major behavior problems.
I work in a full day program with 2-3 year olds. I have eight children and an assistant. If enrollment goes up I can have 12 children, but I will get another assistant. The 3-5 year old classroom have 3 teachers and 20 children or 2 teachers and 17 children.
I have 10 in my 4's class and 17 in my 3's class. It's a co-op though, so I have a couple parents (2 and 4, respectively) on hand during class time.
20 with an aide. In my State 20 is the limit for the size for preschool and must have an aide. It's still very hard to manage since so many are high needs.
