I will begin sending out applications next week.
How far ahead/behind am I in the game?
You're right where you should be.
Until the budgets get voted on, schools won't have any idea what kind of money they have. So most of the hiring is on hold at the moment.
I agree, I don't think you're behind at all. I know the Texas school year starts earlier in August than here in PA, but around here job postings have just barely started trickling in. So get your stuff together this week as planned and good luck!
Oh my gosh... if you are behind - so are ALL of us.
This is JUST the beginning of the season!
The school I teach at started interviewing this week. I would get your stuff out ASAP. My friend teaches a little further south than me and they just got their contracts, I would guess they will interview at the end of the month.

Awesome. Thank y'all so much.
I read some posts about people getting interviews and job offers, and I got worried.
Reading that always makes me nervous too but I am also just staring interviews/job fairs, etc. I am sure you are just fine. Best of luck to you!!
I feel EXACTLY the same way. I really have serious anxiety regarding application/interview "season."
It's so hard working 2 jobs to find time to go through all the applications and answer ALL the questions required. Interviewing has begun in several districts here and I know I'm already behind.
Just hang in there and know you're not alone!!!
Thank you everyone!!!
Don't worry about it (even though I do myself)! I just heard that I'll have an interview at my former home school district but it won't happen until May because that's when their hiring process starts.
It's just the beginning! No worries. I've sent out most of my applications already, but a majority of the schools i've been in contact with won't start hiring until may.
