If you have instant coffee look up the recipe for whipped coffee. You will get your buzz for sure!!! I tried it this weekend with instant espresso and I was flying LOL
That's a better idea than the crazy people wearing gloves 24/7. They don't realize that you have to change your gloves after every activity. I see dummies come out of the grocery store, load their stuff into their cars, and drive off with their glover still on. IF they actually picked up anything on their gloves it will be all over the place. Paranoid people aren't the smartest people I have noticed. If you use a paper towel they are easier to replace frequently than a ton of gloves that are becoming hard to find for purchase. Also, the craziness with the face masks. Some woman at the store was wearing one and mumbling to the cashier and the poor kid had no idea what she was saying because she wouldn't take off her mask for a second. to talk. So it took 3 employees to figure out she was complaining about the price of potatoes.
Thank you for your generous donation! You are saving lives by giving blood and I personally believe that blood donors such as yourself are heroes. What’s your blood type? (I hope that is not too personal of a question.)
I placed a grocery order tonight. The first available pickup is Wednesday night. I was ordering for us and for my mom. She did need a few things before Wednesday. The local store (our only one) is limiting 20 people in the store and one person per cart. It didn’t take long, and they were well stocked.
Three stores in the next county offer pickup. Kroger and Walmart are free. Meijer is $4.95. Our only store doesn’t offer pickup.
OM...Yes! But for a different reason! I hate pot lucks with a passion unless they are w/ family. I really am not a germaphobe, but all I see at potlucks is pots of germs. For some reason, I am able to eat at restaurants w/out a problem until this virus. I got sick 1 time from a potluck. and never again could eat at 1 other than what I brought. My family all has the same habits with food prep. Most are cleaner than me. I am only about average, but have some OCD ones in the fam too.
I have a real fear of uncooked produce right now. It has been handled by too many. I have no clue if cooking would kill the virus, but in my happy place ( denial), it does. I am mostly going for frozen too because in my mind, they are safer. I am missing salads like crazy!
I agree with you. I buy very little fresh produce right now. I can get bananas, potatoes, and packaged salad. Everything else is frozen. I tried one of those grocery delivery companies this week. Bad mistake! I won't ever try that again!!
I have 1 bag of packaged broccoli type salad. It is going to go bad if I don't get over my fear or just cook it! haha
I don’t have as large an exclusion list of foods as you but up to now I’m the only one I know who has a thing about textures mixing and food mixing. When I eat out I always request all sauces and any toppings in separate dishes. I hate it when crunchy and smooth textures mix. So hard pass on granola with yogurt but I’ll eat them separately. Definite no on crunchy peanut butter or cake with nuts in it. Even artisan bread with the a beautiful crunchy crust. I have to eat the crust first then the soft fluffy insides. People who don’t know me think I’m weird and eat like a child but later on they just accept it’s part of my natural charm lol.
We could definitely eat together. My food can not touch, and I only eat one thing at a time. I start with my least favorite item and save the favorite for last. I have a teammate who does the same thing. We sit by each other at lunch. I’m extremely picky with textures. Meat is particularly bad for me.
I went on a "self isolation" camping trip. I drove 11 hours from California to the Arizona / Utah border. Wanted to visit Glen Canyon National park. Park is open and free, but all campgrounds are closed (not stated on their website). You can still hike and fish. So I tent camped on public land, 1 evening, 3 full days and 1 morning. Came in contact with very few people during this time (maybe 4-5) all 6 feet away. I would have been in close vicinity of 10-30 people just by staying home and going to one grocery store. So I believe I did it responsibly. I have seen the most beautiful places and hiked, hiked, ate dinner, slept, and repeated, and again. Took 1 dog, Misha (youngest German shepherd) I needed this, with losing my dog and my camping trailer stolen, being cooked up in the house, I had to get out, mourn my loss and heal. I feel so much better.
Thought I would bump this thread back up to ask futuremathsprof how things are going with your hoard? Have you had any neighbors knock on your door with a stricken look on their face and ask for supplies?!
Hahaha! Hysterical, really. I’ve been asked by no less than 8 of my neighbors for toiletries. They remembered my massive order, gosh darn it. It’s gotten to the point that I state, “This isn’t Costco, away with you. 6 feet, remember? <makes a shoo gesture with both hands>” Lol! I’ve already sold like 15 packages to these the scoundrels who keep making da poo-poo. I started with 200 and now I’m down to 184 (I am still using one 50-roll package myself). How am I going to make this last at this rate?! I’m probably going to put a CLOSED sign outside my front door that says, “Abandon all hope, yee who try ask for the TP here. (Except the landlord — he’s welcome).”
I've had MUCH more personal questions asked of me. I'm O+. I'm trying to decide if I'll attempt platelet donation next time. As for what I'm doing now, I have to admit my running has fallen off since so many of my races are being postponed and I can't run with my buddy because of distancing. Need to find another outlet.
We were able to do some landscaping in the back yard. I also planted flowers. We placed an order at Lowe’s and a greenhouse. Did curbside pickup.
I have been doing a lot of reading that I normally don't get to do unless we have some kind of break. I only have one more week of packets being sent home for my students. I have it almost completed. I also have to get my grades recorded and turned in by May 6th. May 8th is technically our last day but I will still need to get my room ready for the summer. We are planning on sending our students' personal items home the following week (May 11-15). Each grade level will have one day for the parents to come pick up their child's report card and items. We will have a Zoom meeting this Wednesday to find out when our day is (I teach 1st grade). We will be allowed to be there to tell our students' (if they show up) good-bye and give them their stuff. It is going to be a bittersweet day
I joined a book club last week. One of my friends started it, and my BFF is also in it. Oh, and several former students are there as well. I’ve got two English degrees, and I’ve never been in a book club even though I’m a voracious reader.
I'm in several online book clubs and also one that meets in my town (although now we do Zoom meetings). It's a lot of fun but the person who started the group always chooses the books so they are not always the best picks. I read them anyway lol
My book club consists of 7 current and former colleagues. We usually get together about once every 6 weeks or so, but are now doing Zoom meetings. We chat via text or WhatsApp several times a day. We generally get a pretty good consensus on titles; we all enjoy the same genres.
I have never been in a book club but I think it would be a lot of fun I especially enjoy reading cozy mysteries. One of the series I am reading (Library Lover's Mysteries) has a reading club in it but they call it crafternoon because they meet once a week in the afternoon, eat, and also work on crafts while discussing the book they are reading. I think that would be something fun to do as well Although I am not technically a crafty person by nature it still sounds like fun! I also like the idea of everyone getting to choose a book to read and not just have one person deciding what to read every time.
I have a cozy mystery book club on Facebook if you want to join. We vote in a poll every month to pick a book. Send me a private message if you want the info. I love the Library Lovers mysteries. The author is very sweet and has chatted with our group about one of her the books that we read. It's really cool when the authors take the time to chat with us.
Once or twice a week, I've started going on a few drives lately to scenic places where I'm gone for a few hrs. It feels like I've gone somewhere. It helps break up the monotony.
I love taking drives but dont' want to waste the gas LOL Sometimes I will take my dog in the car and just drive around. I don't want to take him to the park right now.
I have been camping pretty much every weekend. Campgrounds were closed but you can still camp on public land and I have everything I need. Actually at our river there are many single campgrounds (often with bathrooms, and or benches ad they're free). Everyone was out there lol but it's such a he space that no one was crowding others. Went one weekend with my 2 dogs, and I met a group of white water rafters, actually 2 of them were guides. Invited me to go next weekend, so I went camping again and rafted down on a class III river with my dog - free of charge It was great. Last weekend I went up in the mountains and this weekend I'm going 3 hours away to a lake. It will be like going back to winter, 37 degree at night. I just bought a kayak and I want to try it out. Last weekend I just went fishing. I think I only stayed home one weekend not doing anything. I have to get out. 10 days ago our nearby larger city opened up all the camping areas and some of the lakes, unfortunately not the 2 lakes 30 minutes from me. That would be perfect I could go fishing or take my kayak. Or both. As soon as school is out I'm going back to Glen Canyon National park for about 3-4 weeks. I'll have my new trailer by then. That park is opening up more and more
