I don’t know all of the details. I just know that they have trimesters, and they can start dual credit their junior year. I teach 8th grade, so we help kids pick schedules.
At least try to get out of the house every 3rd day to do some walking in a spaced-out area OR get fresh air when having to go food shopping again, which I've only gone food shopping once on Mon., 3/16 since we've been ordered to stay at home. Still got a good amount of food now. Other than that, I don't really get bored at the house. There's TV, tons of DVDs, Xbox 360, magazines, computer looking up all kinds of things (youtube vids, etc.), & computer work I can do. I've been wanting to start meditating, so now I have all the time in the world.
I noticed that my students are sleeping in I am to call them twice a week, so I've made a schedule that Monday I will call my Monday / Tuesday and Wednesday students, Tuesday I will call my Thursday and Friday students. Then Wednesday I'll call again those who I haven't talked to or haven't returned my call. Then Thursday and Friday I follow the same schedule but the ones I talked to I will just text. Obviously I wasn't going to call them at 7:30, so I started at 9, but it seemed like I had better luck with 11 am and after On GC I posted a quickwrite asking them all kinds of questions about their situation, also what they think, how they feel, if they have any questions. Some may be buying into the overhype and hysteria and might need some clarification. This way once they respond I will better understand what they're going through and we can talk about it.
I'm still at work. Not much as changed except we are allowed less movement around campus and only a certain number of people in a given space. I am hoping to take some walks outside when the weather is warmer next week. There's a cemetery down the street so I think I'll go walk over there. Should be nice and quiet
I've just been hanging out at home. We are under a stay home order, so don't have much choice. Looking forward to watching Onward when it comes to Disney+ in a bit. Already watched Frozen 2. I know lots of movies are coming early to Demand but I don't want to pay when they will be showing up on Netflix, Hulu, or Disney for free.
Today we went to the pharmacy to get my medicine, then to DH’s school to pick up his a Chromebook and some other items he didn’t bring home because he didn’t know they were closing school. We also stopped for groceries and chicken. We were supposed to have spring break next week. However, they decided to make them school days and end the school year a week early.
If we're told that school is out until August and we have no sports, I'm going to lose what's left of my mind.
My apologies! The first part was wonderful! The second part of you losing your Spring Break was not... Sorry!
Losing spring break isn’t bad. It’s not like anyone can go anywhere. Or they shouldn’t be going anywhere. At this point we all just want to be done with this year. It’s been rough. Our last day of school is May 14. We are out until April 20th, currently. We have a plan for the rest of the year to instruct at home if needed, which will likely happen.
Our local government people are already saying there will be no school in April. They probably want to say May also but don't want to get people upset. The state officials are telling us to be prepared for up to 9 months but I'm hoping that's not going to happen.
They claim we’re going to be out until at least mid-May but I’m going to be perfectly honest when I say I seriously doubt we’ll be back in this school year. I’m thinking August.
They’re very tentatively telling us May 15th. But when you look at it from a sheer numbers perspective it doesn’t sound feasible. From an administrative standpoint missing a whole month at least seems like a massive under taking to even get back to where we need to be to consider it a successful school year. At this point, state testing is completely out the window, the time line is completely gone. And coming back May 15th it’s going to be like they’ve had summer vacation.
Especially the parents. I think that's what most states are doing. Don't hit them with the full brunt of "you're the teacher until August" announcement......
I'm starting to agree with a former coworker of mine. With no state testing, the only thing to come back for would be finals. It's starting to look like we're done for the year.
Right. And the thing is, it would be like having midterms a week after the start of the school year. It’s not really feasible.
Went to the store and only a few people are let in at a time with cops sitting outside. Times are a changing.
I was able to get into my classroom to grab my docking station and other accessories. Also grabbed every container of wipes I could find in the room as well as my supply of hand sanitizer and non-latex gloves (I keep my own school stash because allergies). After seven years of teaching online, it only took me a matter of minutes to get settled back into my home office.
Well, I have decided to tackle the 12+ boxes still in my second "guest room" from when I moved here. At least 7 boxes were full of clothes, and I wasn't about to just hang up and put away boxes that have been packed for months, and which may or may not have been clean in the first place. (Remember, I went on vacation and never went back, so other people packed for me.) Oh my gosh -- one box had my clothes hamper in it full of "dirty clothes" from June! I decided to just chuck quite a few of those, and what I kept, I washed on deep clean. The washer and dryer have been in constant use. I did run out to get more hangers...first time I've been out in over a week. Went straight there, got the hangers, self checked-out, (then covered my hands in hand sanitizer) and came straight home.
Swan, Can you contact media and stores? The grocery stores here made it so that people 60 or older can shop the first 2 hours of opening (after the store has been cleaned/sanitized). This has been a wonderful thing for the elderly especially here. They get 1st pick of what is available that way too. I haven't been to the store in awhile now. I am just using pantry items too.
Just woke up from a nap. Now I won't fall asleep until 3 in the morning. This is like a dream I just keep repeating over and over.
They did that here too but the lines to get in the early shopping times are longer than normal shopping lines. One line stretched around the block. I don't need anything that badly. My neighbor is using delivery and as long as we can wait a week or longer, we can combine orders. I miss fresh food, milk, and eggs, but I'm hoping things are able to settle down relatively soon.
Swan, oh! I am so sorry! It maybe works better here because of such a small population. I still have eggs, but nothing else that is fresh. Oh, I do have milk kind of fresh. Did you ever freeze milk and butter? It stays good for a yr. Yes, I hope so too. I needed something really badly and an older person found it for me once when shelves were restocked.
Because you don’t need to get your hair done. But your pet is going to need supplies such as specialized food, training pads, etc.
You might have some issues because even on-line delivery is limiting supplies. I hope it can work for you though.
Many of our stores are now limiting how many people can be in the store at a time causing lines. But it is a nicer shopping experience without crowded isles with kids running all over.
Kroger is big in my area, and they have a pickup service. I place my order, pick a day to get it (there is usually a two or three day wait now), pull in a designated spot and they bring it to my car and load it. It used to cost $5, but they recently made it free, I had never used it before, but tomorrow will be my second time. It was wonderful!
I order from restaurants for almost every meal and so I rarely buy groceries. It helps that I bought a massive stockpile of supplies — my garage is filled wall to wall — before all of this started (January 2020) to last me the rest of the year and beyond. In fact, the delivery guys thought I sold stuff for Amazon online, lol, when the shipment arrived! They all were shocked that I revealed it was just for me. One guy was like, “How many kids do you have?” The other exclaimed, “if you don’t mind me asking, are you Mormon?” I stared at him for a couple of seconds and just burst out laughing. What great fun!
