Houghton Mifflin Question

    In my classroom we use Houghton Mifflin Spelling and Vocabulary. I do not have an instructional guide for either grade (2nd/3rd). I need to explain to the students what the elephant words are. If anyone knows can you please explain what they are and their purpose too.

    I believe they are sight words or words that are exceptions to the rules taught in the unit. They are called "memory words" in the 4th grade book with an ! beside them. You may find some help at eduplace.com

    I remember elephant words...they are "bonus words" or hard ones that don't follow the rules.
