The weather map of the US shows it orange and red across the nation. It was 102 in NYC today. I tutored in air conditioning first thing this morning, lunch with a friend in a lovely little air conditioned bistro ( salad and chilled avocado soup, yum...just googled that recipe to try!) and now back home...going to meet some colleagues for a glass of chilled Chardonnay at 4.;)

What are you all doing to stay cool?

Yesterday I went swimming with my BFF for a few hours. That was refreshing.

We have central air in the whole house, and a window unit in the den as well. I also have fans in the kitchen, living room, and bedroom. That helps keep the air circulating when the air isn't running . . .which really isn't much in this heat. Normally I open the curtains and shades in the morning when I get up, but I've kept most of them closed during this hot weather. I avoid cooking things that will require the use of the oven. I've not done as much laundry to keep the dryer off.

It's 88 with a "feels like" temperature of 100. At least it is overcast and there is a slight breeze . . . even though it is a hot breeze. I took the dog out before 5:00 this morning, and my glasses fogged up when I walked outside. Ick! I really dislike humidity.

Welcome to the Heat wave :) This is our seventh day with heat index over 100 and our third day with actual temps over 100 :(

Staying indoors in the AC, running errands very early in the morning, and trying not to think about how large my electric bill will be next month :(

Both my electric and gas companies will 'even out ' your bills so you pay the same every month...so it's nice not to be hit with the huge electricity bill in the summer and the huge gas bill in winter...they just average it out over the year.:thumb:

I feel your pain!!! This is our 43rd day over 100 with no relief in sight!!We bought a new house in December with a pool!! I swim almost everyday. My electric bill was $455 last month!! That is with the ac set at 78. We try and use the grill as much as possible. Sometimes it is a good excuse to eat out!! lol

DW doesn't believe in A/C, so we don't have one. We have fans.

DW and kids are away, though, so I may retreat to a movie theater for the evening.

Anyone want too borrow my avatar?

Its actually not too bad here today, after days of heat indexes well over 110. Miserable! I looove hot weather, but that was ridiculous!

I heard on the news last night that today will probably be the only day in July that the temp is below 100 here.

We are in our THIRD week of 100+ temps ... we have another week predicted, too!

We have high humidity on top of it and it is impossible to be outside.

INteacher--really enjoyed the weather when we were there earlier in the week:p, unfortunately, it followed us home! They are calling for a bit of a break, in the humidity at least, early in the week. Can't wait--I have sorting, cleaning and organizing to do and it's just too hot!

Yesterday it was 107° so today I was looking for my sweater!

    BTW the Humidity is 19%

So far we have had 52 days of over 100° temp and 16 days over 110°

It was about 100 degrees for the better part of the day. My hubby just went nuts and put in 2 additional A/Cs so now we have 4 running in the house. Hopefully we can go back to using only 2 of them next week. Seriously, I'd rather be too cold in the winter (at least I could put on a sweater) than way too hot in the summer.

It cooled down today. Yesterday, I just sat, I was so hot, even with the air on.

    It was HOT.

The funeral was bearable this morning-- the church had AC so it was comfortable enough.

I was kind of a bear to the kids when I got home. I was hot and upset. But I had lunch and all 5 of us got into the pool.

And pretty much got out 8 hours later.

(OK, to be honest, we did get out long enough to call some neighbors-- 4 of them joined us when they could and stayed for dinner and a LONG after dinner swim. And there was the occasional potty break.)

But we had a simply delightful day.

The bay area might be a good escape too. According to the news the last three days were going to be HOT! Well, not really, maybe in the 80s and no fog. Well, not really, the fog was back today. But, hey, the sun did shine for about half the day and at least it broke weeks of all day fog.

I can't even imagine the beach in this weather! Somehow, when it's oppressively hot, the beach always seems hotter.

Oh, it is hot - but it's actually cooler in FL than it is in the NE! Plus, the water is the perfect temp right now... I just hang out in the ocean, stay out long enough to get an ice cream and dry off, then head home.

I love the beach in the summer, but especially at night, on the boardwalk.

The heat index was 114 yesterday, today it's only a mere 100. Needless to say I'll be indoors till the sun goes down!

I am getting use to the Mississippi heat..kinda. I drive to the mall in Jackson, and go walking there instead of outside. I bought a small screenroom tent that fits in the trunk of my car (2 people with chairs can fit into it) and go to the lake early in the morning and drink ice tea and listen to nature and other folks. I was planning on seeing the sights in New Orleans, Memphis, and Atlanta but the heat changed my mind. The rest of the day and night I stay inside with A/C. I haven't even heard a jazz band or tried to find Morgan Freeman's club:( To hot...but I have the rest of my life. I'm loving this part of the country and still enjoying the warm rain and stepping out into a sauna.
