I wanted to share a bit of wisdom from John Scolinos. In 1996, he asked 4,000 baseball coaches "How wide is home Plate?". 17 inches. No matter the league or the age, 17". When a pitcher steps up to the plate and can't get it to home, we don't widen the plate for them. We hold them to 17". When our students fail to meet our standards, do we change the standard? Or do we hold them accountable and coach them to standard? Don't widen the plate. You can read the full snippet here although I've seen it elsewhere.
