I will be a first year teacher, so it has been very difficult to find a job!! I am positive that you all can understand completely how exhausting it is to keep interviewing and sending applications and getting nowhere! In April I went to a teacher job fair. I was waiting in line to talk to a principal who had a booth for a job opening. I happened to be standing by a lady and it seemed awkward not to say hello and start a friendly chat. We started talking and I discovered that she was a principal at a magnet school who was required to be there, but her school did not have any openings. She told me how that her school was for students who were academically and artistically gifted. I told her that I almost became an art teacher, but I changed over to elementary later. She told me that I could give her my resume just in case something came available. Well .... just last week they promoted one of her teachers to the district. She was left without anyone and she grabbed the resumes she had. Everyone else she called already had a job but me!! She interviewed me and we really hit it off. We talked for an hour and a half. The next day she offered me the job! I will be teaching gifted only 4th grade language arts and social studies! I have a large classroom that has a bathroom actually in the classroom and my own a/c temperature controls! (it's the little things!) The school has almost no technology, but I will make do !!!! I am in shock !!!
Congratulations. You seem to have played down the A/C perk. That's a big thing in MS! LOL Enjoy! I'm happy for you.
Thank you! I just got a lot of my materials. It is a bit overwhelming. You jot down a million ideas in school, and now I have to figure out which ones to use!!
Congrats to all the newbie teachers! Your education, enthusiasm and energy will help you! Don't let anyone dull your sparkle..
