Hi! I haven't been on here in a long time, so hello to all. I rely on all your expert advice for big problems, LOL. This year it's about Christmas. We plan to go to relatives over Christmas. One of our sons has a girlfriend who agreed to come, but last week said she has to go to her moms first on Christmas Day, and won't arrive until around 10:00 at night (it's a 3 hour drive.) Our son and grandson will be going before that so our grandson can spend time with his cousins Christmas Eve and Day. The relatives we are going to said that they don't think anyone should open gifts before the girlfriend arrives (10:00 Christmas night,) unless they're Santa gifts. For example, any gifts that we bought for our grandchildren and sons, each other, etc.So, does that make sense that we all wait for her? Should the grandchildren have to wait?

The kids shouldn't have to wait. Do what you normally do. The girlfriend can open presents the next morning.

I agree. Make her feel welcome while she is there but don't change your family traditions for a girlfriend who may or may not remain a part of the family in the future.

I agree with others. We have opposite problem. We have to be at family's house for bfast & don't want to rip through gifts. So we do stockings first, then to family's & back to our house.

Hi Grammy. No, one person shouldn't hold up the whole group. Especially when there will be anxious children present. I think you should do everything as you normally would and let her fit in as well as she can. At ten pm.

Maybe a few adults can wait but I wouldn't want the kids to wait. I would feel bad if people waited for me.
