...in just over 6 hours, we'll be starting our marathon drive to Florida. With 3 drivers, we're doing it in one stretch. Have any of us started packing? No. The laundry is all done, however. My son's has formed a precarious "Leaning Tower of Laundry" in the laundry room. Lauren's is on the couch in the living room and mine is on the bed in the spare room.

On the list for the next few hours:
    - pack
    - clear out the fridge
    - run the dishwasher
    - finish tidying up the remains of the wrapping paper
    - pack food/snacks for the drive
    - load a couple more books onto my e-reader
    - decide whether or not to take that marking that really should get done
    - check the weather forecast for I-75
    - be sure I have all the paperwork for the condo rental and my flight home
    - pack a few kitchen things we'll need in the condo
    - remember to pack the Pack-Hopper passes!
    - gather pillows and blankets for in the van
    - pick movies to watch on the drive
    - squeeze in a bit of a nap

Whew...you'd think that this was a last-minute trip or something!

I may be interesting trying to get down the eastern seaboard of the US; this storm looks pretty intense.

Stay safe, and wish Lauren luck for us!

We're taking I-75 instead of going further east for just that reason. I've been keeping an eye on the weather on our route and it looks pretty good for the most part.

Leaving in less than an hour! We have a couple of stops to make on the way (Lauren needs new goalkeeper gloves), but are hoping to be seriously on our way by shortly after 3:00. Our route looks pretty good--storm seems to be quite a bit further east than we'll be. Our plan is to drive straight through, but we'll stop if we encounter bad roads.

Drive safe and have fun! In Central New York we're west enough that we're not getting hit bad by the storm at all, so hopefully everything will be fine for you even further west.

I live right on I-95 near Washington DC, and it's not bad at all here. They have said anything from 3-10 inches, but we still have yet to see anything stick. It actually looks like they may have dropped our weather alert, so not much here! You should be fine if you are taking I-75.

We arrived yesterday afternoon after about 24 hours on the road. We had a couple of meal stops and many stops to run to the washroom, switch drivers and top up on gas. Our total drive time was around 22 hours. We didn't hit any bad weather--lots of snow on the ground when we got off the Interstate to gas up just outside of Knoxville, but the Interstate was clear. Our longest delay was at the border crossing into Detroit--45 minutes to cross with only 4 cars in front of us!

We're nicely settled in and I'm enjoying a cup of coffee while catching up here. There's frost on the ground, but it's supposed to get nice!

Oh, Alice is right--Lauren's in a tournament at/near Disney--we're staying in Kissimmee.

    Yay Mrs. C
How's Lauren feeling?!?! Did she get over her "crud?"

Why do the people at the Detroit border think they are God?!?! We went one time before 9/11 when you just needed your license... hubby (bf back then) had out of state license & the lady who looked like she was from an Asian country (she was probably American), was giving us a hard time of why is he coming to Canada, why is he from out of state... we were looking at her like Really?!?! LOL!!!

Lauren's starting to feel better, but woke up this morning with a rash--she's not itchy, so we'll have to keep an eye on that. She'll be so glad to say good-bye to 2010--it hasn't been the greatest health-wise for her.

I've never had a border crossing like the one the other day--there were the usual questions, but we also were asked for confirmation of our accommodation reservations, what we all did for a living, who was involved in the soccer tournament we were attending, how we were travelling to Florida from the border crossing, the route we were planning to take, what stops we were making along the way. We weren't asked to open the back of the van, but about 2/3 of the vehicles ahead of us (in all lanes) had their trunks inspected. Grrr...I'm glad that's over!

I hope Lauren gets over her rash quickly!!!

Glad you guys made it safely down there. Hope Lauren starts to feel better. Good luck to her and the girls!!!

On our way back from the border where my hubby is, they had a checkpoint station. The guy in front of us was straight from Mexico (had Mexican car plates). They asked him so many questions, took the dog around is car, and even peeked inside their van. We get up there and are asked if we're citizens and get sent on!

    Hey MrsC,

Hope Lauren feels better and that they win their tournament.
Glad you guys made it safely :) If you went down 75 then you weren't far from my area. The weather here has been cold but other than the snow on Christmas day (the first since the 1880's) it's been pretty uneventful. Am hoping it stays that way since we are supposed to go to NC for New Year's Eve.

We did come down 75--everyone was sleeping when we hit the Atlanta bypass, so I just stayed on 75. 7:00am and no delays! The forecast is looking good for the next week!

We spent half the day today at Animal Kingdom; the Lion King show was fabulous! Magic Kingdom and Epcot are definitely on the agenda, as is some outlet shopping. We're also hoping to go for an air boat ride (my husband doesn't feel we need reservations, although all of the places I've found say that we need them). Lauren has soccer games on the 31st, 1st and 2nd, so we'll have to work around those.

More than 90 minute wait with a Fast Pass today (at 2:45 they were telling everyone with passes marked later than 2:40 to go to the back of the line (well over 400 people long)--we gave it a pass because of time.

Julius and I drove back to Daytona from Tampa on Sunday. It's usually a 2hr 15min drive (depending on how fast he goes .. ugh) and it took us almost 3 1/2 hrs to get home. We came to a complete stop at the start of the Disney parks and sat in traffic until the end of them. 1hr 15min later.. I was cranky. That was the first time I had ever been by the disney parks around Christmastime. I have made up my mind that I'm never going there around this time… ever. LOL

Glad you made it safe and sound and have fun!!!

If you can get to Epcot at rope drop:
Have someone grab all the tickets and get fastpasses to TestTrack. (Up ahead and to your left) Then meet the rest of the party at Soarin' (It's up ahead and to the right.) It's not to be missed!!!

And if you catch only one fireworks show, make it Epcot's!! It is absolutely humbling to watch!
