    Hello-
I am starting a brand new position this year...much different from previous years! I will be teaching English 11 in a resource room for students with Learning Disabilities. I am trying to figure out my first week and need some community building activities. Any good ideas that work will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

I just learned a cool one called How to Build a Better Bathtub. Each group designs the perfect bathtub (it can have things like surround sound, temp control, pillows, etc). You can have them do it as a placemat activity where they expand on each others ideas and if they have an artist in the group they can even draw a rendition. Then they present their ideas to the class.

I did something similar a few years ago, but the groups designed a better school workspace (chair and desk).

If you have a chance, order a copy of Activities that Teach. There are some great ideas in there that you can use all year!
