Hi...here I go today.....off to my first day of in-service in the 6th grade....in a new school.....in a new district. Whay you say?? Am I nervous?? Well.....does a dog move his lips when he reads? Yep....a tad nervous. I have had a wonderful summer break and am excited to get back to work...but I'm nervous to meet my new colleagues and next week...the kids. Also...I'm teaching LA....and just not sure how everything will get in...or done. But I'm sure it will and to be honest....I can't wait until next year......(with fingers crossed) when I'll be in the same room for a 2nd year (yes...fairly new teacher) teaching the same thing and feeling a bit more confident. Wish me luck ....... and I'll let you know how it goes. Good luck to you all....especially newbys like me.
thanks......... :thanks: Today went well. I met teh rest of my team....and had a meeting this morning....re..teacher evaluations..... Then this afternoon had the benefits package explained, etc. I'm anxious to get my room set and work on my roll and lesson plans. The students start next Wed. (1Aug). So...we're off and running. Thanks for all of your support....
Congrats! How exciting. I can remember the excitement of my first year - and I still get excited every summer as school is about to start. We don't start until September, though -- it seems so early to me that you guys are starting now! When did you start your summer breaks?
We are on a partial year round schedule....2 months off in the summer.....2 week break in the fall....a little over 2 weeks at Christmas....2 weeks in the spring...and the other usual days off......we really love this schedule.
Remember, Big Cat, that we old vets really like to be asked for help (makes us feel all those years were useful) so make sure to seek out your veteran teachers and pick their brains! It saved me so much time and effort early in my career - and now I get to pick the brains of the young newbys like yourself!
Thanks Logan Morgan....I'll be right here all year. Oh...I wanted to say that my 1st 3 days with the students went very well. If these past 3 days are any indication.....I will love this age group and this school. I did the "Interview your partner" activity the 1st day and these kids did so good. Even my autistic student interviewed his partner...wrote the paragraph about his partner...and got up in front of the class and read his paragraph to the class. I was so proud. So far so good!!!!!!!:2up:
