Here Come the Lower Prices!

I can attest to the use of fabric for bulletin boards. Ten years ago I covered 3 bulletin boards and 4 panels of a folding wall with fabric. Two of those are covered in a stretchy fabric, which was a pain to hang on the wall panel, and the rest are medium to light weight cottons. I'm no longer in that room, but the fabric is still there and still looks great!

 

Plastic Table Covers

I use plastic table covers for bulletin boards. They are cheap and come in all different colors. Plus they last for a long time.

 

I have been spending waaayyy too much lately and so, I am on a self-induced spending spree until Aug 1. (Unless VP finally sends me a great ad before then.) Hopefully I'll still be able to get some good deals then.

 

I LOVE that idea--consider it stolen!

 

Walgreens also usually has really good deals on plastic page protectors and divider tabs for binders.

Do you mean you put a bunch of notebooks in your Writing Center with the labels 'Vacation' and 'Birthdays' etc.....and the kids go to the center when they choose the "work on writing" choice and pick a notebook, write their name on a page, and fill that page with a story about THEIR vacation? Then leave the notebook at the center and another child can come do the same thing on the next page....so that the notebook gets filled with different kids' stories about their vacations?

 

....and if you say "YES" to the above questions, consider it...borrowed! I really like "ouch" and I know kids can think of a bunch of stories about times they've been hurt. Now, what other topics do you label your notebooks? I have a bunch of notebooks but I only let my students use composition books.

 

I went back for a second time today to get some more glue sticks at Walmart. I also went to Target for the .40 composition notebooks along with some other goodies. I just don't understand how you can spend $30 browsing around through the dollar bins.

 

I went back for 40 more 10 cent gluesticks too. I now have 80. How long do you think those will last for third graders?! I wanted to get more...but I already had 120 .17 notebooks in my cart and the cashiers hate ringing me up (found that out last time I went) when I have that much stuff.

The 88 cent section in the school supply section has been wonderful for my treasure chest. Those jumbo erasers shaped like different characters (mario, batman, cinderella, tinkerbell, etc) are adorable!

 

My Walmart says that the 10cent glue sticks don't start until Sunday :{. That being said, I still bought:
75 plastic folders with brads (red, blue & green for math journal, unfinished work, and morning work) for 50 cents each (hoping the plastic folders last a lot longer than the regular - even with lamination, they tear up quickly!)
25 plastic "pencil" boxes at 47 cents each for my kiddos to keep their sharpened pencils, erasers, and crayons in
25 boxes of 24 count Crayola Crayons for 50 cents each
and a Swiffer duster for my classroom.

Oh, and before I went in, I found a plastic envelope (think mailing envelope) in the parking lot (no name on the front), in which were SIX brand new packages of 12 Command Strips!!! I tried to turn them in, but since there was no name, I was told to keep them. Yay!!!

 

I went to WalMart today to get supplies for my classroom, well, despite not being hired yet, I still want to be prepared

I got glue sticks, but instead of the Elmers, they had a brand called "CraZArt" that was $0.25 for 3 glue sticks, same size as the Elmers. While I will be teaching Middle School most likely, I still have some great ideas for the beginning of school that will involve glue sticks.

I also raided the $0.88 area and got lots of stickers - even older kids like them I splurged on an eraser pack for myself, only because it looked like sushi, and I love sushi.

My clerk just took one notebook and did qty 50 for it, so it wasn't a hassle for him to ring up my mess.

I'd love to find a great deal on some small dry erase boards to have in my classroom for students to give responses to questions, then hold to their chest so I can see, but no one else.

 

I was such a happy shopping teacher today! I hit the dollar bins at Target and there was TONS of school stuff in there! So excited because I wasn't sure if they would have the school stuff in the dollar bins this early and they did! Oh and then came the Dollar Tree! It was also nice to know that I think I have room for this stuff in my classroom since I cleaned out a few drawers/shelves last time I was there!

Just realized I bought college ruled spirals tonight for my third graders. Should I exchange them for wide ruled? I bought 120, so it'll be a pain, but I would do it! Not sure if third graders can handle college ruled paper or not?

 

Ehhhh.....I'd go back. I don't know though. What are they using them for? Some of my 3rd kids wrote really big last year. The smaller lines frustrated them.

 

FourSquare: I'm using them for writing notebooks- so various writing activities. LOL, I was so eager to count them out and get out of other people's way, that I didn't even realize I'd gotten college ruled! I think I'm going to load them all back in the car and return them in the morning for wide ruled. I emailed my principal to ask if college ruled paper was allowed (the school I student taught at was strict about NO college ruled paper)--but I don't think I'm patient enough to wait for a reply. Just a lot of notebooks to lug back inside walmart. I already looked like a crazy person coming out of walmart with 5 boxes of notebooks. How will I look going in with them? Lol.

 

I would definitely exchange them. One of my fourth graders brought college ruled looseleaf last year and it just didn't work.

 

I went to Target today and found their dollar bins FULL of teacher stuff. All kinds of containers, white boards & pocket charts. My son and daughter were picking out fun stuff too! They also had all the back to school stuff out too. I got composition notebooks for .77 each! And in different colors too! (black for science and red for math). I had to stop myself because I wont have access to my classroom for another week and don't have a place to store it till then! But I couldn't leave with out some stuff at those prices.

 

Also, Big Lots has a bunch of college-y type stuff on sale. Bean bag chairs are $17, bucket chairs are $25 and there are a ton of cute furry/sparkly body pillows for $10. I picked up one or two or five things for the classroom library.

 

Kroger has 24-count Crayola crayons for 25 cents per box, limit 4 (with Kroger card). Of course, my hubby & I went together today, and "hit" 3 different Krogers (they were near where we were going ), and came home with 24 boxes of crayons!

 

I lost a cap to one of mine LOL and I was holding them!!! :lol:

 

Go to a Home Depot or a Lowes. They have paneling that is specifically for use as a whiteboard, or you can choose shower board. They will cut it up for you.

 

Okay, I'm jealous.

No .10 glue sticks at my Wal-Mart. Or the two in the next nearest town ( I checked them out yesterday when I went to a baby shower).

Crayons are not .50 but 1.14

I was hoping to replenish my crayon box as it is looking quite sad.

 

Does your location have a back to school section out yet? Do you live in a state where prices are typically higher because of shipping costs (Hawaii, Alaska, etc.)?

 

I live in a flyover state. And the back-to-school stuff has been out for a couple of weeks.
