I saw the Elmer's Glue sticks at WalMart for only 10cents a piece!

 

Is there a limit on how many can be purchased?

 

I bought 40. There weren't any limits, but good luck keeping them in your cart. They kept falling through the holes.

 

Oh how funny! I can just picture it!

 

I think I'll borrow a small bowl or something when I go to get glue.

No need to take a bowl. When I bought mine I just picked up one of the small/handheld baskets at the door of WalMart and they don't fall out of those.

 

I only bought ten today but they were rolling all over the conveyor belt. I think you should get one of those handheld baskets if you buy more than ten. It could get tricky. Luckily I had two hundred dollars more stuff in the basket so they didn't have a chance to fall out!

I wanted some Crayola classic big markers but they just had assorted or whatever they call that package.

 

Here's a bic mark-it coupon I found. It's 2 dollars off one pack. Walmart has 8 packs that have an extra 4 black mark-it markers in the pack--so that's 12 permanent markers for 1.36 (original cost is 3.36)

I went through glue sticks like water this year. If I could find them for .10 cents I would fill my cart to the brim!

 

Has anyone seen composition books for less than $.50? I could swear I only paid $.25 each last year.

I went to Walmart today and all the .10 glue sticks were gone

 

I was in Joanns today and they had 50% off all 54" Home Decor fabrics. These are the ones I like to use on bulletin boards since they are heavier. A lot of the other fabrics were on sale as well, if anyone needs new bb backgrounds.

No problem on the link! You can print 2 coupons per computer--so I printed four amongst our two home computers--used them today to score 4 packs of the bic mark-it permanent markers. They only had 8 packs when I went, but $1.36 for a set of 8 that usually costs $3.36 doesn't seem so bad to me!

I got 40 of the glue sticks too. What's funny to me is that they aren't even in packaging. It's like they opened up a bunch of glue sticks and dumped them into a bin to sell. There were 3-packs of the craz-art glue sticks for 25 cents. Has anyone used these before? Even though they were technically 5 cents cheaper than getting three of the Elmer's 10 cent glue sticks, I was wary because I didn't know the quality. I'd like to go back and get some of the craz-art ones if they work decently compared to Elmers!

I follow the couponing blog hip2save.com...which is where I got the coupon link! She posts all the deals and coupons for school supplies each week now (amongst many other awesome deals on all sorts of stuff)

Silverspoon: I am a new teacher--does fabric usually work better on boards instead of the butcher paper most schools offer?? And how much did that make the fabric with the sale?

Missy: They were .25 at Staples last year, but that's the only time I ever saw them below 50 cents. However, since Staples new teacher policy sucks, it won't be worth it to get the .25 ones. Walmart has no limits or crazy rules, so I'd recommend getting them there! The regular spirals are only 17 cents though!

 

Score! 50 gluesticks for .10 and 42 spirals for .17, plus a few odds and ends. The .50 composition notebooks are exactly what I'll want my students to have, but I'm not buying 175 of them!

 

Mrs. K - wish the composition books were like 25 or 30 cents! I too need more than a 100. But I think I'm going to settle for spirals instead since they're less than half the cost!


Question to all: What size scissors do you get for third graders? I have about 10 pair that I got off clearance at Staples months ago (before I knew what grade I'd be teaching). But they seem really small. Do third graders need adult size scissors? Also, have you seen any deals on scissors?

 

Kids scissors are fine. I use my children's old scissors in my high school classes.

 

My third graders use kid scissors with no problems.

 

My 6th graders use the same kids scissors I bought years ago when I taught 3rd grade.

 

Thanks for the responses about scissors! They just look so small! Lol. But it'd be better than having to buy more of them!

This thread makes me super happy. I see a shopping trip to Walmart taking place today.

 

Shopko always has notebooks for .10 cents limit of 18.
I go back lots of times and send others too.

I label each for Daily5 work on writing such as "Vacation" and "Birthdays" and "ouch". I start with about 10 and try to add a new one weekly. The kids grab them to write in or to read. So I'm telling you this as we go thru the 10 cent notebooks like crazy!

 

I went to Target today and their composition notebooks are .40 for those of you looking for them.

 

Of course, Walmart was out of the 10 cent glue sticks by the time I got there this afternoon after SAT class.

That didn't stop me from spending something like $70 on school supplies for my family. (To be fair, the vast marjority of it was in binders--each of the kids needs several.)

 

I'm sure they will have them again next week. It wasn't a weekly sale, they don't even have a circular this week.

 

Why is there no Walmart within shouting distance of NYC? Anyone spot good deals for the rest of us?

 

I got 30 glue sticks today. My local Walmart also had a variety of sticky notes, awards, treasure box items, etc. for 88 cents.

 

There is, its 20 min from the Holland Tunnel tops in Kearny NJ. It's not a terrible walk from the Path station in Harrison NJ if you don't want to drive. There is also a cab business at the bottom of the Path platform if you don't want to walk. Probably less than 2 miles away. Path is probably the cheapest option. I think the fair might be up to two dollars per ride. I'd take it and avoid the tolls. There is also one in Secaucus NJ and there is a lot of options to get there as well.

 

Walmart was out of Crayola crayons and college ruled notebooks, so I went across the street to Target. Both the notebooks and crayons were the same price as at Walmart. I also noticed a few other items that were the same price, so if you don't have a Walmart near you or Walmart is out of what you need you might want to try Target. Usually I find that Target is more expensive, so I was plesantly surprised.

 

Walgreens will also put school supplies on good deals sometimes. I don't typically think of buying things like that there, so I remember to check the weekly ad in the summer time. Last year's best find was highlighters for 9 cents.

 

I know there are some in Nassau County as well, not sure where in the NYC limits you are though and if that would work for you. Have you checked out the KMart in Penn Station? Their prices may be good too.

 

Ms. B - Paper or fabric for the bulletin board is really a personal preference, but the fabric will last longer, and can be more cheerful and have more options depending on what you are looking for. And like I mentioned, if you get the home decor fabrics, which are usually for drapes or reupholstering furniture, it will last a long time. It really depends on the original price, but with the sale you might be able to find things as low as 4-6 bucks per yard.
