Moving to a christian school this year from public. I'm looking to redo pretty much everything the exiting 2nd grade teacher is doing.
They have bible memorization each week and all she required them to do was write the bible verse twice and have the parents mark off it was done, without turning it in.
I'm not crazy about this and want to do something more meaningful.
I'm not really concerned if they've memorized the bible verse as much as I'm concerned with them understanding the meaning. I don't want the HW to be too time consuming for them.
    Any ideas?

This is going to be such a new world for me. I'm sure I'll have posts about asking for suggestion/advice/general questions in the future!

    Excited for this new adventure!

Perhaps you could have a checklist type thing that says the child read it with a parent, and then they could write it in their own words or reflect on it? Would 2nd graders be able to handle reflection?

    Congrats on the new job!

Have them draw a picture of the scene, and then write a sentence whether they agree or disagree with the Bible on that particular matter.

They could turn in two things: the written verse, and what it means to them.

I would have them illustrate the Bible verse, make it into a story/ cartoon where someone is teaching someone else about the verse and the meaning behind it.

You could do a theme a month. for example for Feb have it about love verses in the bible:
