I am a resident teacher in Oklahoma and, due to the instability of teacher retention, am thinking about relocating to Clearwater. I would like to know what the salary is for a second year teacher. Are there teacher shortages in Florida, cost of living, etc? Basically, any information is helpful. I teach Middle School English now, however; I am certified Elementary Education grades K-8.

    why clearwater?

cost of living is pretty high here- real estate is through the roof. the market is relatively dry- generally, many more applicants than openings.

st. pete (south) has many more openings, but the schools are much rougher.

    pinellas county starts at 36k.

have you thought about polk, hillsborough, or hernando counties? they're in this general area, and the job and real estate markets are much brighter.

i didn't mean to sound as negative as that came across...

i love the area (been here all of my life) and i love my school.

the district is hard to break into, but not impossible.

I lived in FL before I moved to OK. I think just the housing prices alone might send you into some shock. The cost of living is a lot higher in FL than anywhere here in OK. Good luck with your decision!

Come to Orange County, you will be snatched up in a heartbeat! However, the housing costs are astronomical.
