:help: Our Open House isn't back to school night. It's when the parents come and see what the students have been working on thus far in the school year. This year my principal is advertising the Open House to the community and would like the classes to "GO ALL OUT." She is thinking some kind of academic performance would be good. Any ideas?

    Academic performance?

Have something recent the kids have been working on out? IDK.

We have Thinking Journals where we record our thinking with comprehension strategies - something like that out? It shows growth since the beginning of the year.

Maybe just have their writing folder, math journal, science journal/folders (all their journals/folders) available to peruse.

    Good luck!

I am so glad we don't have the added stress of Open House. Do the grades with standardized testing have it? Poor teachers!

    open house

She actually wants the students to do some sort of performance. That's why I'm stuck. What kind of academic performance could they do? I think she wants something like recite their mult. tables (problem they're in 1st grade and we don't have them all memorized). So I guess I'm looking for something that the parents will think is fabulous - you know has the appearance of being fabulous like 1st graders knowing their mult. tables without really being fabulous.

Could you do a reader's theater? Or do you routinely sing some songs in your classroom that you could have them do?

    I agree - reader's theater sounds good.

Have them memorize a poem and say it to the parents?
