In my beginning foreign language class, we are learning color words. I would like to have students create a small project focusing on the colors, maybe something simple like a color swatch. I'm looking for ideas on how to liven that up and make it a little big higher-level. I'd love to hear how early grades address colors--maybe I can tweak a little ones lesson into something more appropriate for my big kids. Thanks!
Paint chip crafts are BIG right now...you could gather a bunch of free paint chips at your local hardware store and have kids cut them to create pennants, collages, pictures...and label each color used... http://pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=Paint+chip
We sing color songs, practice mixing paints together to make new colors, mix different colors of playdough to make new colors, make color word chants
It's probably too young for high school, but maybe a children's counting/color book? Something like 1 red apple, 2 blue eyes, 3 green trees,.....
I'm already planning on doing a vocabulary flashcard matching game with paint chips. I'd love to mix paints and play with playdough, but I don't have the materials for that. I love the idea of a counting/color book! It's a great way to practice numbers, colors, nouns, and adjective agreement! Thanks for the great suggestions!
You could make playdough (you only need a little per student). It would probably take you about a batch per class. I can usually use 1/4 of a batch with my 25 kids.
What about decorating the room for spring? Have them all color and cut out flowers, leaves, cute animals etc and label them by color, then post them around the room. Quick, easy decor and the names of the colors are reinforced every day when they look around the room.
