I took over teaching in this classroom two years ago. I inherited a large collection of big books. They're stored in a wire "crate" thingie that is SUPER heavy. There are so many books crammed in there that the kids can barely use them and I forget what's in there. I'm working on getting my classroom library in better shape and I would love a new, more organized solution for my big books. Any suggestions? :help:
I wonder if they'd fit in a large tub (for example, one that is used for hanging folders)? Or did you want them more displayed nicely?
I keep mine in a large Rubbermaid tub. I also inherited them all from a retiring teacher. Last year I kept them by the class library but they didn't get much use. This year I think I'm going to move them to the carpet so students can sprawl out and enjoy them.
I saw some once in a tall plastic hamper. You have way more than the example I saw, but thought I would mention it.
I use an old magazine holder that has sides that come up about half on the books. Works okay but I try to be sure sturdier books are to the outside, some have a tendency to bend over otherwise.
Glad u asked the question because my big books are also a hot mess. Last year I displayed them on the window, but this year I have no room on the window.
If you know someone who is handy maybe they can build you something similar to this http://www.e-quip4education.co.uk/acatalog/info_MFBBHCOL.html
I'm not sure how big the big books are, but I know Michaels (craft store) sells white cubes that are quite similar to the storage shown in the above link. And with a 40% coupon (or wait until they're on sale for 40 or 50% off and add your teacher 15% discount!) they're quite a bargain!
This is the cube to which I was referring: http://www.michaels.com/4-Shelf-Org...lt,pd.html?cgid=products-scrapbooking-storage
Mmm, You've all got me thinking. I inherited a bunch of big books & I've been wondering how to store them. I have a in white. Maybe if I stood it up on it's side?
Thanks...and they're pretty well-built. And, as I said....with a sale and teacher's discount, one can purchase many cubes for his/her classroom.
Thanks for your input, gang. I guess I'll just get rid of the ratty books and try to just straighten them up. Maybe put some away so it won't be so messy.
