What are some topics that you can talk about that are interesting other than political views/ events and spiritual beliefs?
Books/ movies have to be nonpolitical. Humor is the same. :)
I agreed to stay in a social group ( including a few family members) when Covid 1st came out. We are running out of "safe topics" to discuss.....lol and at 1 point things erupted into an argument like never before.
None of us are doing anything real interesting, traveling, or working now.
Any ideas of safe of cheerful topics? Thanks!

Sports can work for 3 of them. :) Thanks! I know very little about sports though. I could ask questions. ( and drive them crazy! lol)
Recipes would be great, 2 are vegan, 1 is a carnivore only almost, but some of us do eat 1/2 way normal. :)
I think we ALL have favorite memories together! That is a lifesaver! We are all long term tight w/ each other, so we share a lot of good memories! Thanks!.
Weather has been getting old since the eruption! Lol :)
I am going to make a card game having to do w/ favorite memories. I already have an idea.

It depends on the group dynamic.
    Fondest memories of...
    Most embarrassing moment ...
Funniest thing you ever saw ... (but can't be anything negative about anyone in the group)
Top three and why ... (pick a category)
If you had to choose between ... (pick a category)

Pick an odd topic and the next time the group meets talk about it. This is very group specific but an example, "Why do bats sleep upside down?"

Some games can be modified if you are doing video chats. A dice game is Farkle. You can play as a group but each person has their own set of dice.

“Would you rather?” Is a fun game. The kid version is still fun for grown ups, but is not likely to cause strife.

1 thing we all have in common is we laugh at ourselves!
So most embarrassing moments is def going to be added to my game! ;)
The funniest thing you ever saw is 1 we can all do also. We all like to laugh.
Thanks for the great ideas,a2z! ;)
We meet in person, not video chat, but we have all made a commitment to the others to steer clear of any1 outside our group other than about 10 feet outside. WE confess if we crack and stay away for 10 days if we do.
Plus, we do pick ups at stores, have unkept hair ( I have been cutting my own...haha) and don't go inside other people's houses/ businesses other than our bubble's homes. We have held together pretty good until the blow out.
It would be fun to hear people's most embarrassing moments on here too since no1 knows us, we can feel free.

I have heard of this game, but never played it. I think the kid's version would probably cause less strife too. I heard it can be pretty gross, but I have never played it. The kid's version would not have the chance of anything political.....lol Thanks ! I will see if I can get it online.

Funny experiences and funny things you read about are the best. Nothing works like humor. If I just talked about the type of books I read (often non-fiction), I can see where arguments would creep up quickly. Instead I share about the funniest things that happened to these people. I also don't talk a ton about teaching, but I do share about some of the funny things that children have said over the years. Funny experiences are better than extravagant ones for discussions. Ever notice that the couple who went to Italy are talking a mile a minute, while everyone else is bored? This pandemic has brought about so many humorous things we are doing to stay sane and busy. Everyone loves to laugh and everyone loves a good story. Books and memories are the best places to find them.

Yeah, I used to have tons of funny stories. I am afraid I have already told this group most of them. 1/2 of them were teachers at 1x in their lives, but we all taught such different things other than 1 of my friends, so we don't "go there" unless we are together w/out others. ( I know teachers can bore nonteachers to death when they get on the subject of education....lol) We will have to do the memories instead of books. We all share wonderful memories, but we have all been reading political books....:)

I have a whole little book of them. I use them as fun discussion starters or writing prompts. One is “would you rather fall in the cafeteria or get caught picking your nose?”

I love it! We are all older, so we'd definitely rather get caught picking our noses......:)

You didn't need to explain this. I don't judge what people do during this time. You are all adults and can determine what is best for you all.

Two "would you rather?" topics that always generate discussion with my students:

Would you rather sneeze marbles or fart butterflies?

Would you rather have perpetual diarrhea, or perpetual constipation?

Yes, we have little choice b/c of 1 elderly person in the mix. Family has to look out for family in my case. He would not make it if we didn't go there.
Our bubble is very cautious though for his sake especially. Definitely, grown adults have to weigh their own risks. All of us are different in our situations.
Where I live, they have suggestions more than mandates. If they'd have mandated us to stay home by law, I'd have gone to his house and stayed there, but it is not like that here. I don't judge it either.

    - Cooking & trying new dishes &/or ingredients/foods for the 1st time since many are probably cooking a LOT more often.

    - Anything NOT in stock at the stores these days? If so, what?

    - Methods of pampering oneself

    - Ways to relax

    - How's everyone been staying in shape?

    - How's everyone been making their home a heavenly oasis since we have to stay home?

    - Purchases &/or online purchases made recently

    - Pets & what they're doing

    - Movies/TV shows watched lately

    - Books read lately

    - Doing more activities outdoors & if so, what?

    - Who watches YouTube videos & what are they about?

    - If you could learn any language, what would it be & why?

    - The fun topic of what would you do if you won the lottery?

Can you do Chair Yoga? You just sit in a chair and do some relaxing exercises mostly using your arms and deep breaths, etc. My church group did this once with an instructor and a lot of people in the group are older or very out of shape and even they did well.
    There are videos on YouTube.

Thank you for all of the ideas. My favorite 1 is what would you do if you won the lottery. 1x my sister and I came so close to winning it was thrilling...for the moment! We both had discussed this and it blew my mind how we'd both spend it so differently. It will be interesting to see how everyone would spend it.

Thanks! 3/4 of the group was actually going to Yoga classes before Covid. They still do it alone. Maybe they could teach us a few new moves.
I have been before and have the strangest ...kind of shocking flexibility ( even the leaders have commented on it...).I think I always was super flexible as a kid and having spent most of my life doing squats by kids' desks and I sit on the floor a lot. IDK...think I was just born that way.....
However, my balance is NOT so good.....lol I have fallen on my butt my share of times. Doing chair Yoga might work well for me...haha

You're welcome. I always like that one too & now all of you can see how differently you'd answer the question THESE DAYS.

Yes, It was a long time ago and I bet both of our spending would be different now too. She had wanted to spend the $$ on scholarships for kids to college.
At the time, a lot of my friends did not own their own homes. I had wanted to make a small circle of basic homes and give 1 to each of my friends so we could all be neighbors. Now that I am older, everyone owns their own homes. :)

Since most of us are spending more time on our computers, I love running across the unintentional word plays/puns that I find all the time. I'm also quite the fan of of things I read where the person uses words and phrases that don't mean what they think they wrote or used. Words/phrases that are used in ways that definitely change the meaning of what they thought they were saying/conveying can be quite hysterical.
