My school is moving into a brand new (newly built) building in the fall. I just found out today that different sections of the building have different theme colors, and mine is orange. That means I'll have orange cabinets, an orange accent wall, and possibly orange floors. My original plan was to use a blue and green color scheme - the colors of Really Good Stuff's neon blue and neon green. (See here: http://www.reallygoodstuff.com/durable-magazine-book-binder-holders-neon/p/156298/) I am not really a theme person - I go more for color scheme.

I think blue and green COULD still work with orange, but the orange is throwing me a bit. I don't use a lot of orange...I don't think I even own one piece of orange clothing...so I'm not sure how to coordinate with it.

So, what colors would you use if there was a lot of orange in your room?

Any ideas are welcome! Thanks! :D

Grey will look good with orange. My class is going to be grey and yellow but I almost went with the color grey with a darker orange as the accent color.

I dislike orange and I've been in your place. I didn't use a theme and instead just used basic colors to where the orange wasn't emphasized.

Ohhh... probably not orange and green. Thinking about that is making my eyes hurt a little bit. Orange and blue usually looks ok together, or you could also go for reds and yellows.

Black looks good with Orange too. Those happen to be our school colors, lol. :D

Grey and white also look nice.

These pictures actually make me like green with orange even more! lol. Maybe it's just me... I was originally thinking citrus - orange, yellow, and green. Mostly yellow and green since there is already a LOT of orange.

    I can't stand red, so that's out.

I do like the suggestion of blues and yellows.

JustMe - first grade is all either orange or red, and I HATE red. I'd rather get blue or green like kinder or second, but I teach first, so I'm ok with orange since it's not red. :p

I do like the orange and grey idea, but it seems a bit subdued for me. I like bright colors. Though I realize there needs to be a balance.

Maybe I should get some paint samples....for now, I'll just be googling. :)

I actually saw this on Facebook today and I pinned it - I'm seriously considering it! Although I'm nervous about the brown with SO MUCH orange..

Blue! I had a room trimmed in orange, with orange doors, and dark blue looked decent with it. You can drape blue fish net over large expanses of orange.

I like that houzz link. I think the green and blue in the first pic on this page look great.

    http://www.houzz.com/orange-walls/p/8

I think the dark orange and lots of green in the 4th or 5th pic, not so much.

    I agree!

I think I am going to go with the dots on chocolate - I really like the colors it allows me to incorporate, AND I love that I can buy pre packaged stuff! :D

Thanks everyone for the input!! :)

It's interesting that others have had rooms trimmed with orange - this accent color thing is a new concept for me!

When I see orange and blue I think of Auburn University. Two colors I would not want put together (ROLL TIDE!)

Now, seeing your name, yellow daisies would be cool with the orange... yellow and white daisies.

Also, going with the white to accent... use the chevron design...

OP- I like the brown with polka dots.

If you decide to go with the Dots on Chocolate, check out TeachersPayTeachers, and search for it and for brown dots. You will find several coordinating labels and décor items reasonably priced (but you have to print them). You can also search on Pinterest. I have pinned them there, as has several other people.

Orange is one of our school colors, and the cafeteria is done up in orange, black, and white. With such a bright color, I'd probably want to do a retro-50s throwback. Maybe a rock-n-roll theme. (Dunno. Just what pops in my head when I'm in the cafeteria!)

My room is nothing but white. Surrounding my (you guessed it) white board hangs a string of red chili pepper lights.

So there I am, in the front of the room, in an aureola of red-glowing fruits. Now that is decor!

I like the orange and brown to help tone down the orange. :)

My eyes would be bugging out if I had an orange room (oddly enough I'm wearing an orange shirt and jeans and I'm okay). I just can't look at some colors without it hurting.

I like this orange with blue rimmed bulletin board:

Good luck! And make sure to share what you end up doing :)

I just looked through some orange rooms on decorating sites, and I think I'd probably go with mostly white as a secondary color, with a touch of turquoise and yellow. It could look really bright and fresh. If you go with brown, it would always look like fall to me.

I had a room with a large orange accent wall and I decorated with sunflowers. It looked great!

I was thinking of the University of Texas with the orange.

    Gig 'em Aggies!

.....I like the dots on chocolate. You can make that really cute, I think.

Thanks! I did find some really cute stuff on there! :)

Thanks everyone for the advice! I love so many of the ideas! Based on what I already have and what I think I'll like the most, I am going to go with dots on chocolate. :) I found out today that the orange will be muted - NOT a bright orange - so that will work well, I think. And the entire floor will not be orange - thank goodness! So I do have high hopes!
