So, my class needs to perform a 5-10 minute 'skit' at our church's annual fundraiser (parochial school). It's on Sept. 11th, so we were asked to do something patriotic. I have a small class and don't know if everyone will be able to attend, so I need something simple. Anybody have any suggestions? I've been searching the internet, but everything I can find seems pretty complicated. Thanks!
Maybe a short reader's theater with one of the books that people were talking about reading around this time?
Could they sing "Proud to be an American" & maybe wave small US flags? Also, Oriental Trading did have blinking patriotic bracelets (low cost).
Spell out God bless the USA...have a statement for a kid to say for each letter: G is for Good people who rush in to help, O is for..., culminate with 'God Bless America' or 'God Bless the USA'.
Have each kid write a letter of thanks to "those who keep us safe"-- firemen, policemen, soldiers... Then see what you get and have each kid read a line or two from his letter.
Thanks for the ideas. We ended up pairing with the 1st grade class--we have a patriotic ABC book. The first graders will say the "A is for America," and my kids will say the little rhyme that goes with it. Each of us will sing a song--we're doing "America the Beautiful." One of the later verses works well: "O beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife. Who more than self their country loved And mercy more than life! America! America! May God thy gold refine Till all success be nobleness And every gain divine!" We just really got thrown off by the 'skit' designation, which is how it's worded on all the posters, etc. Before the date was set, we were supposed to do more of a humorous thing, but that obviously changed.
