    Hello -

I accepted a job as a librarian/resource room teacher, but the library has NO check out system. I have permission to order an electronic system (some of the books were previously barcoded, but the school's old system died and I have no way for students to check out books).

This is what I know we need:
A barcode system, something that is easily scanable for checking in/out and keeping track of inventory.

Something affordable. Our school is Title I, so that may help, but I don't even know where to START looking for materials like this...

    Thank you in advance!

Check out Wasp. I got a barcode scanner from them-they are the largest inventory system I found when looking on the internet. They may already have systems in place for libraries-good luck!

Check out the American Association for School Librarians website for ideas and advice. Also Follett is the go to company for setting up new libraries.

I do not know if I am allowed to say this, but I used to work for Library Video Company and they have something called an Opening Day Collection to help new libraries startup. As far as barcoding, Follett is the biggest company out there, along with Dynix and Alexandria.

    Good Luck!!

How many students does your library serve? How large is the collection?
