I am a first grade teacher. I look forward to contributing to this website whenever possible and sharing ideas as well.

This is my first year of teaching. Are there any school stories for little kids that I can read to them during ELA classes or not? I have tried looking online but I thought I would ask on here too for suggestions.

    :welcome:
Have you tried reading Dr, Seuss?
You also might look into appropriate chapter books.

    Thanks!

Have you read the Horrible Harry Series or not? Is it appropriate for first graders? I need some sites for making and adapting my lesson plans as well.

Got any tips for classroom management?

Welcome! ;) I haven't taught first grade in many years, but I loved the books I used. Some of Bernstein Bears books are written like Dr. Seuss (I like his too) with the rhyming which is great for kids that age.
They are all really cute. They all end with , "This is what you should not do. Now let that be a lesson to you." It is funny to kids that age.
Some of my favorite books for that age was a group of books that taught social lessons. The 1 I remember the most was called " Little Miss Bossy." I can't remember the rest, but if you found that 1 for sale, you'd find the author, and you'd find the rest.
1 classroom management trick I used w/ that young of kids was: I'd tell them how fun something I had for them was, and at that age, they believe anything you say. You could have them scrubbing the walls and they'd think it was the best thing ever and that you were so awesome to let them do it. :) Best wishes in your new position! :)

I think you're thinking of the Mr. Men and Little Miss books by Roger Hargreaves.

One of my favorite school-related stories is "School's First Day of School" by Adam Rex.

What about the original Amber Brown picture book series? Would you recommend them or not?

I loved the Little Miss and Mr. men books at that age. They seem rare to find now, unfortunately.

I loved them too and I remember some being so appropriate for behaviors of kids that age. It was well over 20 yrs ago, and I still remember the Miss Bossy 1. lol I think I must have had some girls who were the oldest child that year! It is a shame they aren't accessible anymore.

My now 14-year-old loved them when he was younger. I bought a bunch through Scholastic. We also used to check them out from our local library. They're still around .

That is awesome. You couldn't pay me enough to go back to that age group. I loved them when I was younger, but I don't have that kind of energy anymore!
