I was wondering how much you must pay monthly for family health insurance. In the district I teach in, the cost is $50 for individual. For a family the cost is about $800 each month! The district pays 75% and the $800 is what I would pay for myself, husband and son. I think that's too much. Any opinions? By the way, it does include a lot of services, plus dental, but no optical. Optical is extra.
We have 5 different plans to choose from. I am an individual....I'd have to look at my stubs to see. 800 a month seems like a lot. As an individual I feel like I'm being ripped off because I think my friend pays only like 20 bucks more than I do a month for her AND her hubby. I'll check in a bit--
I had 3 companies, one with 2 plans to choose. I chose the one that was a bit more pricey due to that I have had them already for the last 4 years (under my parents plaN) and the reputation compared to the companies... I am going to be paying about $80 a month for individual. The other plans I had to choose from were only a few dollars less per pay period with optical include. Dental is a seperate, one choice only plan, is only about $8 a month
mine is about $75 for an individual, $150 for two. Not sure what a family costs, but $800 is a lot. Mine covers, dental, vision and medical. dave
The district where I used to teach I paid nothing for my health and dental as an individual but had to pay $7 for vision. i am not sure what it was for family.
In my district for my husband and I the cheapest plan was $375 and that did not include dental or optic. I personally think it's a rip off! Im going to see if I can look into individual companies and see if I can get anything cheaper.
They take about 35 bucks a pay period out of my paycheck. (We get paid every other Friday). It covers basic health. Then on the back you have to call different numbers for vison, mental health etc. Those are all covered on the same plan but my "Basic Plan" Is Blue Cross Blue Shield. For the others I have to call different providers. Like My vision is done by someone other than BCBS. We have two dental plans. One is free. Though this has a seperate card for services from my BCBS card. Hope that makes sense.
I pay approximately $375.00 per year for health coverage for my family and myself. I do not pay anything for dental and vision. The district contributes to a Wellfare Fund that covers that coverage. I receive for vision $300.00 and each family member receives $100.00. For dental we each receive $1000.00. I am also fortunate that health, vision and dental coverage continues as long as my children remain in school up to the age of 25. (great if one is going for a master's degree) They even allow an additional $2000.00 towards orthodontic work.
My family medical and vision plan is $70. a month and my family dental is free. Prescriptions are $10. each. My doctor copays are $15. I think our plans are so inexpensive because our Teachers Union negotiates our benefits and does such a good job.
I carried my husband and I on my policy, and I was paying $385 a month. Basically that was for just DH because the policy I had was paid for by the state. Last year I looked into an individual policy for DH. Now I take NOTHING from my check for my insurance, and his policy--nearly identical to the one he had before--is only $149 a month!!
Individual health insurance, dental, and life insurance is covered by our school district. Each employee gets $550 to "buy" fringe benefits. A typical family plan was around 1,000, so out of pocket expense would be around $500
I get $250 deducted from my pay per month. That coverage is just for me and does not include dental or vision.
Unfortunately, that's a symptom of the health care crisis in this country. Health care costs and insurance costs have skyrocketed. I had an individual plan at my last job (now I'm on hubby's plan). If I recall correctly, the family plan was something close to your $800 figure. A lot of places offer health savings accounts. Basically, you put money into your own account to be used. The first $X are out of your pocket, eventually traditional type of health insurance coverage (e.g., copays rather than full payments by you) will kick in. If you and your family are relatively healthy, you might consider an HSA if it's being offered.
I pay nothing for health and vision insurance. Dental insurance is under 2 bucks a month. My copays are 5 dollars for office visits and 5 dollars for generic drugs (10 for brand name). I don't have a family but if I did, my insurance would still be free. One of the benefits for working in one of the "toughest" districts around.
For individuals, we get a free plan with a $1000 ded. or we can pay less than $20/month for a $500 ded., which I do. I know the family plan is less than $200 definitely. $800? WOW! I might have to change careers and be a doctor!
I found out Monday that my health insurance for me and my two girls will be totally free which surprised me! i used to pay about $17 every pay period for just me and paid separately for my girls' insurance privately with another company. Wow, I guess I should feel lucky. It's ashame how much of our paychecks have to go on saving for the "what if's".
I pay $150 a month for my dh & I for medical, $75 a month for dental. I do not have the vision insurance because dh has perfect vision & I do not mind paying out of pocket for my glasses needs. I am thinking about adding short term disability this year- in case dh & I have a baby. I just hate paying $75 a month for something I may not use.
