Knowing that this is my "tenure year," is it still safe for me to let the P know that I'm still looking for a job that's closer to home? Or should I not mention anything UNLESS it's a very appealing opening?

I'm of the school of thought of keeping your business to yourself. In this case, I wouldn't say anything unless you're leaving and need the principal as a reference, if not, the principal doesn't need to know.

Haven't you already shared that information? I thought it was mentioned in passing at the end of the last school year. Since you are hoping for tenure here, do you have a plan to address the concerns that the principal shared with you at the end of the school year?

I did share this information with him last year. I told him I was looking around only because of the commute. He said to keep him in the loop as he didn't want to be blindsided. As for concerns from last year, he said to be a great teacher the whole year and not the 1st 9 weeks and then coasting from the 2nd 9-weeks onward. That situation is totally in my hands and I can do that. And with tenure? I'm going into this year more guarded than the 1st time I had a chance. To that I mean I'm gonna work hard the entire year and whatever happens will happen.

Since this will be your third year at the same school, is it possible to consider moving closer to the school, especially if you do get tenure?

Since my own children attend high school where I live, moving closer to where I work won’t happen for now. Maybe later though.

This will be what I end up doing. Gonna keep looking at the job boards and apply only to those that I really really want to consider. At the same time, keep on working so I’ll be prepared either way.

I would not mention anything unless they need your current principal for a reference.
