School starts here in two weeks. I'm currently pregnant and will be going on mat leave starting mid-November and lasting through the end of the year. I am having such a hard time motivating myself to do anything. Consciously, I know that there is a lot I can get done in 10 weeks, but it's like my subconscious is saying "Meh. You can wing it for that long." I need motivation!
It's hard when you know you'll be off for so long, but it will be important for the kids to have a good framework before you leave so that they have the tools to be successful for the rest of the year. I suggest planning to cover some of those units/topics that are your favourites; I always find it easier to plan for the things that I love to teach. For what it's worth, I'm entering panic mode. I have tons of ideas floating around in my brain, but haven't done much planning on paper. I've taken over the kitchen table (and dining room table, and family room couch) today, and have a goal to get my first week planned and the first term roughed out for math and literacy.
I'm working on planning my first week. By "working on" I mean I have the templates open in Google. I just can't get moving here!
I helped the new teacher plan out something... and then I didn't do anything for myself, lol figures. I like a previous poster have tons of ideas in my head... but none on paper.
I would try to do what you normally would do to start the year off. It's hard getting back into teacher mode though- I can only assume it's that much harder when you're pregnant
