Have you received any Christmas gifts...

I received a few mugs with candy, a Snowman filled with brownie mix, a teacher ornament, a bath and body works basket, $20 for Olive Garden or Red Lobster (Yummo!), a watch, a cocoa set, some handmade cards from the kids, a handpainted bell, and a personalized handbag.

 

A got a money tree from my room moms. It is a little Christmas tree with bills rolled up and attached to it. Very cute and pretty handy too. I am hoping if I plant it more will grow!
I also got some candy and things.

 

I feel like Charlie Brown! I didn't get anything! I gave out coloring books, crayons, and candy canes the Monday before school let out. Didn't get a thing from one kid!

and my aide didn't give me anything either! sheesh, not even a card! I gave her a card and a gift!

she had been bugging me all month about the secret santa grab bag. I said I wasn't doing that. (I have been burned in the past, never getting what I put on the list, and getting some cheap gift instead)

I may be in the wrong thread, but I think some people just want to get better gifts, and avoid giving good gifts.

but, I will keep my spirits bright...

getting ready to load up my sleigh (Chevy that is!)...and head over the mountains and thru the woods! to the nursing home to see my folks and rest of my family.

I made dinner...and that is a gift within itself! I am blessed to give and spend time with those I love.

I didn't get anything!

 

I received too much to list! I am departmentalized so I have 90 students and must have gotten gifts from over half of them. Whew!! I'm starting the thank you cards next week. I have to admit that I am regifting many of them because I simply don't nned all the things they got me. One example is...a really pretty set of Gingerbread lotion, body spray, bath wash, shampoo, conditioner....as nice as it is, I will never use it myself so I am regifting to a neighbor down the street who is always helpful to everyone on the block. Is that wrong to do?

 

Well, I have complained a lot at my new school that none of the other teachers drink doffee! I bring a mug everyday but it is not the same thing. My students say I should buy a coffee pot but I don't want to leave it plugged in because I travel so much (because I have two students with broken legs who can't go up the stairs). Everyday I got a bag of coffee and on the last day I got a giant pump thermos. I love it! Man, am I going to be wired.
I hand write Christmas cards for everyone of my students (100+) and that is one of my favorite parts of teaching. The students are always surprised that I took the time to write them each a message. I will never forget one young man who just thought I hated him (I had high standards for him!) say "no way" when I handed him his card! I keep all the Christmas cards my students give me too in a photo album. I am going to have to start a new one!
When I taught an inner city school I would bring my students apples and oranges, which I think they loved more than candy! :lol:

 

Regift away...I have so many creams from Christmas past...Definitely give the set to the neighbor- just make sure you remove any tell tale cards from it that it was originally for you!

 

Someone said they received wine. Wine? That is so strange to me. Anyhow, I felt extremely spoiled this year with some very thoughtful gifts, such as a University of Kentucky purse (my students know I love UK basketball) and a beautiful candle lamp with pearls (my favorite). One of my special education students saw that so many students had given me a gift and he came up to me and said, "Gee, I'm so sorry I didn't get you anything...I just didn't know". That just broke my heart. As sweet as the gifts are and as sincerely appreciative as I am, it hurts me to think that a student would feel bad for not giving one.

Now, I won't respond specifically to any one post, but a couple have given me a fleeting feeling of nausea. The number of adults who don't get the concept of a gift is disturbing to me.

 

Regifting? One of my former co-workers would save her gifts that she didn't want/need and give them to the senior center to use as prizes for bingo games. She said those old ladies fought over those mugs and lotion sets!

Justme- I didn't get anything tangible from my students, but I got lots of hugs and "I love you" from each student. I wouldn't trade that for anything!:wub:

 

I got wine twice in th past few years. One parent gave me after I finished theyear with her second child (I had both) ...she said to celebrate finishing with her kids (I loved her boys and would gladly take more if she had more!!)

Another bottle from a parent who saw me working traffic duty every day and appreciated it!!

I am thankful for every day with my kiddos- gift,no gift. Fabulous gift (David Yurman jewelry!!) or giftless. Everyday as a teacher should be viewed as a gift...live in the 'present'....it's all we really have to give (or get) from our students...

 

my condo seems so tiny to me ...anything I am not using has to go! a gift is a way of saying thanks! If you truly will not use it, why not give it to someone else? I don't think if matters if you bought it or just passed it along! just my opinion!


Gingerbread lotion?! Who walks around smelling like cookies?

Oh! On second thought, keep that! Put it in on your desk or in the teacher's bathroom. No teacher should be without lotion! Even if it does smell like cookies!

 

Master Pre-K... I'm in a private preschool in the western suburbs... but I'd rather be in a school district, to be honest
