Have you invented something-only to have OTHERS make it?

    I bet you didn't know this...but I invented the pre-lit Christmas tree.

I had that idea back in the 70's. I told it to my future father in law...and he loved it. we even discussed the logistics of the thing...and sighed about it over a coke. It was going to have the stem as a long green plug in stick, and the branches each ended with plug-teeth.

Years later he calls... "McKenna! Someone stole your invention! did you see? Christmas tree that has all the bulbs on the branches already and you plug it in!"

    *Grumble! Grumble!*

I was at the teacher store, and I had ideas for a few things I needed...and I find that they haven't been produced yet. WHY OH WHY don't I make these things myself!

Have you had these moments as well?

Back in the early 80's, I had the idea for the disposable cat litter box. The ones you can buy now are almost exactly as I envisioned them.

 Yeah, he was getting dressed one day and casually said, "I invented underwear, ya know." I asked him what we wore before he invented underwear and without missing a beat he said, "Diapers."

My husband and I decided when the kids were little (12 years ago or so) that it would be great if we could see where we were putting the sunscreen. Like it should be colored or something. And yet, we receive no money from sunscreen companies for this awesome idea.

My mom had the idea for the pumpkin-shaped leaf collecting bags.

When I was in like 6th grade, the "Supersize" option (you know giant boxes of fries and cups of soda) became popular. My brother was always supersizing his meal and having to hold the cup because it wouldn't fit into the holder. Also, whenever my little cousins travelled with us and had juice boxes or small cups, those were too little for the holder. So, I thought, "Hmm, what if someone were to make an adjustable cup holder? That way, no matter what size the container is, it'll always fit?

I couldn't figure out a prototype, so it never happened.

So you can imagine my shock and dissapointment when my Mom bought a 2005 Toyota truck and it came with an adjustable cup holder built in.

I'm seeing them built into more and more newer model cars.

    :-(

I wanted to invent something like a Diaper Genie for cat litter. I opened up my Dr. Foster & Smith catalog last month, and there it was.
