Just wondering... We had a teacher leave this week. We have been in school since the 2nd week of August. Exams are Monday. Everyone was shocked.

Have any teachers left at your school yet? I hope not!

By leave, you mean just get up and quit? I see you're in LA and there are probably overcrowding problems and high stress, but that sounds like a career killer to me.

Many years ago (1984) I started a job at a new school
after teaching on the other end of the county for 5 years.
Just turned 30 and we had a child and I just quit after the
first 4 days of school. Lost my mind I guess. Began subbing till
christmas and then my old school called and said finish the year
for us in a title one class. Was given a new job the next year at
another school in the sw corner of the county and been there since.
Last year I started doing the PE in the one I originally quit at in
    84. (didnt quit this time).

He actually taught math. He had a lot of discipline problems. He called in the night before school and said he couldn't come back.

I don't think we've ever had one leave during the year, except for medical reasons . . . and that's even rare. Well, we did once have a teacher leave at Christmas break, but it was an issue of not getting along in the school--personal reasons with administration--not so much for reasons of not liking his job or doing it well.

We do occassionally have teachers from other areas teach a year or two before moving elsewhere to be closer to family. Most of our teachers come and stay.

We had one leave three weeks into the school year, but it was actually a good thing. She just didn't seem to "fit in" with the mood and expectations of the school.

I worked with a teacher last year who retired and moved to Florida to teach this year. She did not last a month and is now back subbing at our school. I wonder if this is the same teacher....

We had a math teacher at our high school just quit 2 weeks into the school year. Our administrators are flipping out, trying to find a suitable replacement. Right now the students have a run of the class, and it is even hard to find a sub. that is willing to stay for more than a few days.... :( The sad thing is that we are a rural school with maybe a little over 400 students at our high school and it is really hard to find high school teachers that are willing to come to such a small area.
