I honestly sometimes feel like I cannot take it anymore. I have one offer to LTS for 3 months but I really do not want to do that yet again this year. Plus it is in a district with lousy sub pay-- I would only be making $70 a day for the first two months. It would barely cover my childcare costs. I am praying that I get some more interviews this week or next. I do have an interview this Thursday, but it is for another LTS job.
I got my hired for my first "real" teaching job at 10:00 at night the night before school started. Got an offer one time for a job two weeks after school started. Hang in there!
to you Rainbow! I went yesterday to the agency that handles the subs for my district. It was such a demeaning experience, as if they really did not need subs or anything. The pay is $65 a day for a certified teacher for my district, definitely not enough to live on. I'm really hoping for some interim positions. I still have one more pan in the fire to hope for. School starts today in a few districts here, next week for the others. Time is ticking by...
I really wish the unions would try to do something about sub pay. Esp for the long term jobs. It is ridiculous to ask for a certified teacher, MS preferred, to work for what amounts to barely over minimum wage for professional work. My husband's district is the only one around here that I know of that pays LTSs well. You go to step one on the salary scale at day 11 and then they pay you retroactively on top of that! Ironically, they are also the one district around here that is infamous for NOT hiring their LTSs for permanent contracts. I think subs need their own union.
In my district, you get sub pay for the first 10 or 20 days, then it is regular teacher pay after that when you are in an interim position. That's better than just sub pay the whole time.
Yup. My old district paid sub pay for the first FORTY days. That's school days, holidays and weekends not included. It's a long time to wait in an interim position, esp. if it's only a three-month job. But I don't see things changing soon. BOEs know there is a glut of certified teachers so they really don't have any incentive to change it.
I'm a lady in waiting as well! I had two interviews last week. One position I really would love. I was told by both P's I was the first interview candidate and they would wrap up interviews by this week. I was fine until today! I looked at the state website and both jobs were pulled Tuesday. I was fine because this meant now the selection begins, right? Then, I look today at the school I really want and a closing date for Aug. 1 was posted (I can see status on my app.). If they've sent in a recommendation, I would think they would have notified me if I were the candidate, right? I'm out of steam these were the closest positions to open up. I've already had two interviews in districts over an hour away in June. One rejection letter, but I knew I was a filler from the initial phone call. The other interview went poorly and I never got so much as a "No way, girl!" These two recent interviews went very well. The P. was so positive and used language that made me feel if I had a great chance. Everyone's posting is helping me, but I feel these last two will be it. Staff goes back on the 20th. I have to figure my plan B, which is hurting my core 8(.
Ughh! I'm waiting too! I had an interview yesterday and have felt sick to my stomach with anxiety. I was fine when I left and felt great about the interview. Then I began thinking about my responses and doubting about how well I did.
