I teach kindergarten at a church based preschool. Hence the lack of technology in our classroom. We don't even have access to a computer. I plan on bringing in an old laptop for individual computer time (I will have a very small class this year) and I also wanted to use it to create an interactive whiteboard. I did some research last year and found that we could make one because I do have a projector in my room. I would just need to get the right equipment and figure out how to hook my computer up to it to make it work.

    Can anyone help?

Yes, I'm looking now. This guy named Johnny Lee has developed a method through using a Wii remote. I looked into making one last year but this year I'm gonna shell out the money and do it.

You may also want to try Googling "youtube wii smartboard" for some other insights.

You get desperate when you have no resources from your school. I like this type of challenge. I may even try to figure out how to write a grant for this.

    Try Donors Choose

You know, it sounds like reinventing the wheel. Another way to go might be to try donorschoose.org You may find funding easier than you think if you write a compelling proposal that gets attention. Good luck

I did think about that website... Your post is a reminder that I can do that too. Off to check it out!

My SO made one for his classroom. It works really well. He followed the directions on the YouTube clip posted above. I may have him make one for my room this year!

What kind of computer programs does he use, MissCelia? I'm also looking for ideas of things to do with it once I have it all hooked up.

Well, he teaches high school math, but when I see him I'll ask if he has any ideas.

Did you know you can also make your own document camera (ELMO) ? I read about it on-line and it's super cheap and easy. I couldn't teach without my ELMO.
