I saw this posted on career builder and wondering if anyone knows anything about them. Their website is www.k12.com They don't give too much info on the site which makes me curious as to why not.
I think that K12 is a school company that helps states set up charter schools that are online or "virtual" schools. They have one set up in my state. Hope this helps!
Found this on their web site: We believe...…in individualized learning through mass customization instead of mass production of education. …in decades of scientific research regarding how brains really work and how learning happens. …that Big Ideas + Consecutive Down Payments + Practice = Mastery. …that mastery of concepts and skills should be for all kinds of children—not just the "best and brightest." …in giving parents meaningful ways to be involved in their children’s education if they choose. …in being directly accountable and responsive to all of our customers. …in outstanding teacher engagement. …in rich, engaging content that gets kids into learning so learning gets into them. …that profitability yields invention, responsiveness, and responsibility. …in using 21st-century tools to prepare 21st-century students. …in books, digital media, and dirt—because a mix of teaching tools maximizes learning. ... that children should be introduced to humankind's legacies which create our common culture as humans. ... that raw, unyielding passion is our most important quality. Looks fascinating.
Well, one thing to note is that their web address is .com (commerce) instead of .edu (education) or .org (non-profit organization). Take from that what you will.

Not much, really. Up until a 'few' years ago (in the days of few registrars) .edu was limited to 4 year colleges in the U.S. and .org was limited to specific not-for-profit orgs. Then came the ruling that top level domain names could not be regulated by the registrars (about four years after the great unwashed masses started using the Internet) and that anyone with the money could register as anything except .gov. Can everyone say "Thank you, George".)
Even though .org and .com tdls are technically open to anyone, I'd wager that non-profit organizations are much more likely to choose .org domain names and that businesses are more likely to choose .com domain names. .edu tdls are still managed by registration. I guess what I was trying to say, without being snarky, is that this K12 is obviously a business.
My state has this too... it's a home school option connected to the state standards through internet learning.
What is K¹²? * K¹² is a curriculum developer and provider committed to excellence in education. It is our goal to provide any child with exceptional and meaningful curriculum and tools that allow him or her to maximize the potential for success in life, regardless of geographic, financial, or demographic circumstance.
Let a homeschooler chime in! From what I understand, some homeschoolers use this site as their curriculum, and others use just their free stuff. Awhile back, I used their math placement test to see where Jeannie would fit, and they ranked her right at mid second grade. The only problems she missed were ones where we hadn't covered that material yet. I didn't look too closely at them as a 'school', so I don't even know how they are priced or the ins and outs of using them as a school. They do seem to promote high standards.
I asked because they had a job posting for teachers on career builder. I'm still not sure how they use a teacher if they are an online school.
From what I remember- and I might be wrong- they offer teacher support and, it seems to me, tutoring of some kind. I think they want the parents to know the teacher is there if they need help. I also think you send in tests to them.
