I really want to use Harriet the Spy for a unit, I think the kids would love it and it aligns to my standards and goals but there is some swearing and inappropriate situations. Any thoughts (ASAP) would be appreciated, thanks!

I haven't read the book, but saw the movie. My GS and I loved it.

I read it when I was in 4th with my reading group. That was many moons ago.

I see you are a student teacher. Ask your cooperating teacher for his/her advice. They would know the culture of the school.

I never used the book with 5th graders, but I did read the book on my own. In general, I think it is appropriate. As far as a few bad words here and there, I don't remember as I read it 3 years ago.
