What kind of handwriting do you teach in your preschool. It is something I have never really thought about, but our public school teaches D'Nealian. Does it make a difference to try to teach that in preschool?

Preschoolers don't need handwriting lessons. They need to work on obtaining a 3 fingered grasp, strengthening their hands.

Yep-I just meant for modeling. We have a lot of handwriting that we model, I of course to not expect them to be able to do it. I was just asking more for recognition of written names, ect.

I would call the local elementary school and ask them.

Sorry Redvac, I must've read it wrong. Yikes!

I agree....call the elementary school and ask them.

We use manuscript and cursive on our name cards for the kids at our school.

I teach Pre-K in a public school. The school follows D'Nealian and that means Pre-K too. By the end of the year, most of the students moving onto K can write their first and last names in D'Nealian.
Everything labeled in the classroom is in D'Nealian, the ABC wall letters, centers, etc.

I'm not strict with the kids about it, like if they forget the monkey tail, because as an adult, I have a hard time writing in D'Nealian ;)

We use Handwriting Without Tears and I LOVE IT! It is so DAP and the students build the letters and work on aim and scribble long before they actually write. They also really love Mat Man.
