All my students are on IEPs. They have a set time everyday, work baskets. I place items in a work basket, usually about 3-4 items. The items are based off their IEP goals. So I put cutting activities, coloring, counting, writing. Each student has their own work system schedule, so they can do this independently. They take the first picture and put it in a pocket on the table, and get the item out. They do the item, and put it back. And then grab the following item and so on. Throughout the day, I do activities that are based around their IEPs, but work basket is based on each individual IEP. I hoped that helped!
Hello, Just curious if those of you who have an assistant in the classroom do small group activities where each teacher works with half the class?
No assistant here, but if I did have one I would do the entire class for circle and Bible time. The only time we'd separate the class like that would be for arts and crafts.
I have two aides....Just for this year, because of a student. I always teach whole group...My aides usually only work with students during work basket time, free time, or during art activities. I just started them cutting and copying things for me. Mainly because the other teachers in my area have their aides do that.
It sounds like you work with children with special needs. I worked with them for 10 years. Now I am a Head Start teacher. I onlyhave the children who come in with a IEP or the ones that I refer. At any given time I might just have 5 or 6 children out of 32 (2 half day classess). Plus the speech/language person comes twice a week for the IEP students and other specialists. Plus I have to make sure that I include their goals on the lesson plans. Thank you for sharing with me. God bless you. Thanks gospelcharlie
Yeah I only teach special education preschool students. I'm in my second year now. I currently only have 3 students. My cap is at 8. I'm hoping that I get more soon!
