I think my straighener is about to die. I have had it for several years. The light keeps flickering and it doesn't seem to be getting as hot as usual. Does anyone have any good recomendations for a new one? I don't mind shelling out a bit of money since I do use it a lot and they last a while but I want one that works. I think mine is FHI brand or something like that... got it from Ulta. I have hear the Chi (?) brand is good... any suggestions?

Chi turbo. Hands down....I have thick long curly hair and it is 4 year olds. I think it was about $300 at the time but worth every penny.

My HAI (Hair Art International) flat iron is still going strong. I've forgotten how long I've had it, but I know it's been many years too...way since the whole ceramic hair tools got popular. But I've always heard CHI is a good brand too.

$300 for a hair straightener? I paid $30 for my flat iron several years ago & I thought that was expensive & I bought a cheap one. I got it at Walmart.

But, I don't have curly hair to straighten.

I know it sounds ridiculous...I'm usual very frugal but this is professional grade, doesn't burn my hair because it is ceramic through and through, not just coated. It has been dropped, been on many vacations and used by many people and is still perfect. It also takes half the time to straighten my hair than any other one I have used.

I just have a hard time spending money. We're on a very tight budget & it's not something that I would spend that much money on. But if it's what you want & it works, go for it!

I don't get to spend that much money on anything at any one time! Only exception to that is for Christmas.

My curly-haired friends swear by Chi straighteners.

I have always had stick straight hair, so I never owned a straightener.

The Chi is fabulous. I've had mine for years and it is still going strong! It's been all the way to Europe and back.

Tell me more about this Chi. My daughter is mixed, and her hair is very difficult. On the back and top of her head her hair is course, thick, and has tiny curls, it's more kinky than curly. That's the difficult part to take care of. Around her face her hair is more silky and wavy, it's like literally having 2 people's hair on her head.
So she's always using flat irons, or curling irons, she can make it look really nice, but in my opinion she's totally frying her hair.
Tried to tell her to stop using it, or at least use it in moderation, but she won't listen.

Is the Chi better for the hair?

The Chi won't fry her hair. I have used it for years on my hair and haven't noticed any damage.

One of my good friends daughters are mixed...I've used it on their hair several times. I love doing it because it makes such a difference.

The reason why it doesn't burn your hair is because it isn't metal...which is what causes the damage....you can find cheap ones that are ceramic coated but it is not the same.

I also bought the titanium plated chi.....it was only $70- but the other one is soooo much better. (chi turbo)
