So the kids were even wilder than usual because they had a snow day. We had a brand new kid come in looking super shy and timid. She was fresh from a charter school. My class was her first, because she had to fill out paperwork and all that jazz. Poor kid looked scared to death. After school I saw her walking around looking lost, so I asked if I could help. She couldn't find her locker and no one was helping her. So, I walked her around until we found it. I told her that I was new and was also super scared when I came in.

Then I walked her to the roster office because she needed to have a class changed. Unfortunately, this meant she had to leave my class to fit her schedule. She went "But I want Mr. D. (me) to teach me!" I told her that any time she needed help or someone to talk to she could come see me. She couldn't stop thanking me for helping her.

    It was kind of nice.

Then today a kid threw a trash can at another kid, so it's back to business as usual. :dizzy:

Hopefully the warm, fuzzy moments outweigh the business-as-usual moments! Congrats on creating that bond!

By the way, are the aliens you fight sitting in desks in your classroom?! :)

I feel better, it's not just my kids. No one has thrown a trash can in my classroom, but two boys did a self-piercing in the hallway and came in with the thumb tacks still in the earlobe.

Yeah, it's definitely not just your kids.

They don't teach us these things in teacher school. :p

I had to have security remove a girl who was threatening physical violence over the phone, and when security came, all the kids said "She wasn't on the phone! Mr. D's lying."

Somehow, I think that administration will be more likely to believe the kids.
