First year kindergarten teacher. Any ideas or advice on how to conduct guided reading?
I know that, way back when, when I taught kinder, our first guided reading lessons were on "these are pages, this is the spine, this is the front cover, here is how you turn pages, let's take a picture walk, this is the author, they wrote the book, this is the illustrator, they draw the pictures, etc." Yes, we got to reading, but we started with the very basics.

One example.... Quick group review of sight words cards, sounds in new vocabulary word, modeled reading of book, echo teacher read, choral read with ...touch the word ......., Color the word blank red, etc. Color pictures if finished early for a minute or two (reward for focus)

Don't rush to start too soon. The rest of the class needs to be able to work independently while you conduct groups.
Before you start groups (I'm aiming for November) do lots of shared reading.
