I would like to do some guided reading groups for my ELA time, but I am unfamiliar with how I should go about this. Is there anything I should do. Also, where would I get the passages?

Check out the book Guided Readers and Writers by Fountas and Pinnel. It's an excellent source if you are just beginning.

You can get passages anywhere. Use novels, nonfiction articles, short passages from reading comprehension workbooks can work in a pinch. If you know the Lexile levels you need, the site NewsELA lets you select news articles on current topics for a variety of levels.

I use Scholastic News or National Geographic's often for small article things.

Here's my other question. When doing a guided reading group. What will the other groups be doing?

Look into Daily 5, independent reading (part of the workshop model), or centers.

I have Lucy Calkins book for Grade 5, which is a workshop model. I just haven't had any experience with a guided reading group.
