I have been teaching for the last two years in a school that used Open Court Reading system. I have now accepted a new job at a school that uses Guided Reading and Writing. I don't really know a lot about it. Is there anyone that can suggest some reading material or forums to help me. I think I somewhat understand the guided reading, but the writing is what I am having a little trouble with. How do I structure it? How long does it take? Where do you get materials? things like that. Thanks

Another good resource on how to teach GR and Writing is 'The Teacher's Guide to the Four Blocks" by Patricia M. Cunningham. It explains how to help ALL children in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades become better readers and writers through systematic, multimethod, multilevel instruction. Hope it helps!
