The P from one of my schools last year (I worked at two schools as the At-Risk Interventionist) called me earlier today and asked me to stop by around 3pm to discuss an opening that she had in third grade. She told me to go dressed casual and just take a resume and my certifications. I went and she just explained her expectations and the extra duty that is required (such as after school tutoring and the madatory Saturday school, as well as staff developments and all that good stuff) she asked if this would be a problem and I of course said that it was not. Then she told me to go to HR and turn in some paperwork that they were asking for and she said she'd be recommending my name to them later today and hopefully things would move along quickly so I could catch at least one training for the state test. She told me which room would be mine and the types of items that will be left in the room. I haven't quite signed my contract, but I'm oh so excited! Do you all think it's too early to start jumping off the walls???

It sounds like the job is pretty much yours! I would definitely be jumping off the walls, but I would stay away from telling people until it's official. Congratulations!

Wow, that sure sounds like a job! Are you going to be a regular third grade teacher, or doing intervention still? As they say, never stop looking til you sign that contract, but really, this certainly sounds like the real deal! Congrats!

Congrats!!! I agree with the others, don't say much until you know its official in case it doesn't work out. Then you feel silly explaining it...I've been there.

It would be a regular 3rd grade position, which is what I was praying for! Everytime I'm out shopping, I end up buying things for my nonexistant 3rd grade classroom and hands on manipulatives that I think my nonexistant students would enjoy lol. I agree about not telling people just yet, but you all are so supportive I just couldn't wait to tell you!

The best part of getting a job is the shopping! (at least for elementary!) And 3rd is a lot of fun...I've spent 5 years in 3rd.

Thank you everyone! Today, I went to order our spirit shirts for next year, and I ran into the AP and she said "Congratulations! I heard you'll be our new third grade teacher!" Then I saw the literacy coach and she said the same thing, accompanied by a warm hug. I'm very excited now! But I want to sign that contract to make it official!!

    Congrats!! :)

The same thing happened to me last week. The P at my kids' school called and asked me if I had found a job yet; I told her I hadn't. She said she had two 5th grade positions available and if I wanted one, it was mine. Of course I said yes! She said "ok then, consider yourself hired." Now all I'm waiting for is to sign on the dotted line! I haven't told anyone yet because of that ... but I'm sure it'll happen soon. :)

    Congrats newteacher26!

I was still a little worried today as I was out shopping for some new work clothes and saw super cute things I wanted for my classroom. So, I texted my Assistant P and asked if she'd heard anything about my status because I still hadn't heard from HR. She replied that the process usually takes a while and that HR should be calling soon, and to go out and have fun shopping for items. That made me feel a whole lot better... I cannot wait to sign the dotted line!

As long as she's reassuring you about it, I wouldn't be too worried. I had a long wait for my contract at my new job last year-- I think the HR lady was on vacation or something. My principal made it a point to reach out to me to reassure me I had the position, they just needed to come up with a salary and a contract.
