As an AP it's a suit everyday except for Friday, when we all wear jeans. Here for interviews it's suits all the way.

I'd wear skinny 1 inch heels with a narrow profile.

No suit for me... I wore one to my first interview and was so uncomfortable that I felt like I wasn't on top of my game. I did get a job offer, but I didn't take it... for my next interview, I wore dressy black capris with a nice silk shirt and cardigan. I felt SO much more comfortable and found my perfect job. Coincidence I'm sure, but it did make me feel a lot more comfortable. I say as long as you're dressed appropriately, wear what you feel good in.

I've never worn hose to an interview. The only suit I've ever worn to one is made our of denim. I have worn slacks and a cute structured jacket, and a skirt and a sweater set. That's plenty dressy for here.

It is true. Where you live does dictate how you should dress on an interview. Some of the "suits" that have been shown here, I would not consider a true suit. In the south, (I can speak from this liberally since I have experience in the Southeast and the Southwest) we don't look for hose. My P and AP never wear those! It is just too hot. With temps up to 103, it just does not work for us. I have sat in on many an interview, the people that look the most uncomfy are the suit wearers. They are hot and not in a good way. The people that have on the nice dress or the skirt/blouse combo seem much more relaxed and their personality is what we see.

Having said that, I know that in the Northeast, it would not be considered appropriate to wear anything but a professional suit. But whatever you do, just wear something hip and today. I usually wear pumps on an interview, but this last time I wore some dressy sandals that coordinated with my pencil skirt and blouse. I was looking cute! I have to admit it. Oh, and I got the job. As a matter of fact, I got several job offers. (Thanks to a to z and AliceACC, and SmallTownGal, and so many others!) Was it the clothes? No, but that was one screening that I did pass on the way to getting the job.

I love the choice that you made! You will be feeling comfy in matt jersey and still look professional. All the best on the interview. You will be able to wear that dress for many things too!

I really believe that you should wear a suit in regions where it's expected. But if you can get away without one, why not? I am petite and look 21-ish, but I'm actually 31...I actually like looking so young (my mom is 55 and looks amazing!) In a suit I feel boxy, more overweight, stiff, and insecure. They're just not for me!

    How about hair?

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I'm always trying to make myself look older because I look so young and this scares away a lot of principals, I think. Up in a bun? I feel like this makes me look like I am playing make believe. I can't decide.

I never wore a suit, either. I always wear dressy pants, a nice top, and a short sleeved feminine cut suit type jacket. :D Good luck Pisces fish!

Just a bit of advice. Don't wear a flowy skirt suit when there is a low right off the coast of your state, making the winds of 15mph. And when you have to walk more than 15 ft.

Been there, done that (yesterday).

cristin, I have to cross a large coutyard to get from class to class in my building.

I can't tell you the number of times I've had to hang on tight to a flowy skirt!!

When I went to a county wide job fair, most people wore black pants and a dress shirt, including myself. Skirts would be fine, just make sure you have a POP of color to help them remember you!

You really do have to know the climate of the area and the word "climate" has multi-meanings that apply here. The key is knowing the district and your audience. The safe bet is to overdress to impress, because casual will not get you a job usually. But, there are exceptions to every rule, I know.
