Group Idea-- Technology in the Classroom (Now w/ Poll) As per instructions, I'd like to see what type of interest there may be for a professional group on the topic of using technology in the classroom. My thoughts are that there could be one thread per technology tool. For example, I'm currently using an online site called LibraryThing that I'd like to be able to share with the community. Having one topic on that would allow us to discuss as a community how we use that tool, etc. I thought having one area to discuss technology in the classroom-- regardless of grade or subject-- would be greatly beneficial for us. I know my school is pushing all teachers to use more technology to help engage students with their learning. Thoughts?
This is a great idea. I teach at a 1:1 school and so do several others on the board so we are always looking for new technology to use in the classroom.
I think it is a great idea. I sure could benefit from other's information. By the way, is 1:1 mean there is one computer for each student? If so our s is 1:60.
Yes Aussiegirl-- 1:1 means every student and every teacher have their own laptops/computers to use. Next school year, our fifth and sixth grades are going 1:1, BUT they are not allowed to take home the laptops. Which stinks personally since I was hoping we could do the notes on their computers. As for my 3rd and 4th grades, I'll be given a cart of laptops so I should have enough for every student to have one to use during class if need be.
I'd participate. The school I'm starting at in the fall has a lot of technology, and they want to see the teachers using it. I know I will have laptops in my room for all of my students to use. I'd like to start using Edmodo this year, if possible. I also want ideas for webquests and online research.
YES!!!! I'd love that! Our school is really pushing technology and we have all these great new tools and I would love some fresh ideas!
I'm in a 1:1 school also, and I know that the few of us that are love talking ed tech. I'd love to see it, too.
Added a poll to answer as well-- that might be easier to see the results Glad to see people seem interested.
I would love to have a thread dedicated to technology. I love using technology in the classroom and the best way to get ideas is to "bounce" off someone else.
Yes, me too! I'm not schooled in this 1:1....what does this mean? I'm a teacher of 1:25+ 3rd graders in a district that is looking at having to puchase lap tops for students 9th-12th grade in a year.
1:1 means that every student is provided with a laptop. At a lot of schools, they get to take the laptops home with them to work on homework assignments.
I would like this as well. We've gotten some technology recently after not even having one computer in my classroom, and I would like to learn how to use the new stuff we've gotten. I was just googling to try to figure out how to use the ELMO that we apparently have. It's been sitting unused because none of us know how to use it.
Sounds good to me, I've started a few threads called "technology in the classroom" as well. I'm originally a network administrator by trade. (15 years)
A dedicated Tech section would be great. In Australia there is quite the groundswell for technology in the classroom. We use (between 2 grades) 12 laptops, 12 iPod touches, 12 Nintendo DSIs, 5 iPads, an Xbox 360 with Kinect and a Nintendo Wii. We are also participating in a Games Based Learning research trial. We have a lot of people in our state on Twitter who are doing similar things - and if you are interested in using idevices I can recommend the slide2learn Ning (google search should find it). Look forward to chatting technology!
