Does anyone have any suggestions for fun gross motor skill activities? I teach 3-4 year olds and we've done: crab walks, simon says, duck duck goose, and catch with a ball. I was just looking for new ideas. Thanks!

We do the beanbag songs (CD is really old and produced by Kimbo.) It has them passing the beanbag, throwing it, placing it on parts of their body, etc. Many of Dr. Jean's songs also really get kids moving and coordinating their movements. I'm thinking of songs like Tooty Ta, Baby Fish, Cool Bear Hunt, Mother Gooney Bird, etc. I so love Dr. Jean!

Beanbags can also be good for tossing into a bucket.

You can put masking tape on the floor as a balance beam or as a "ladder" to climb and jump.

I've just ordered some balance boards, hop balls, a ring toss and some toss and catch cups to do even more gross motor activities. I would love to have a real balance beam and a small trampoline, but those will have to wait. We have long winters and spend a lot of time indoors, so hopefully these materials will help.

Greg and Steve also have many good songs for gross motor skills.

pecentral is a very useful website you may want to look at.

Yep! They aren't so young anymore, but still pretty wiggly. ;)

We use a parachute and my kids love bubbles! Sometimes I'll try to tell them to jump up and grab it or different ways of trying to grab them (walking backwards, galloping).
