My co-teacher and I are having a hard time coming up with a greeting song for our circle time. We have a morning class and an afternoon class- so ideally we'd like one "generic" greeting song rather than a good morning song and then another song for afternoon (mostly because we get mixed up having two songs!). We'd like the song to include all the children's names (esp as they're still learning names), but since we're teaching 3s, their attention spans are pretty short. I was thinking the one that goes "Oh here we are together, together, together... Oh here we are together _(all sitting on the rug/something)_______"? then you say "there's name, and name, and name, and name, oh here we are together all ...."

Does anyone have any other suggestions that might work for us? I've tried searching for songs, but most that I've found don't say the children's names.

I think that's a good one..."The More We Get Together" because it's simple, with lots of repeating, and you can mention each child's name. They'll love it.

    "Hello, friends, how are you?"
    "Hello, friends, how are you?"
"Hello, friends, how are you? How are you today?"

To the tune of Skip to My Lou

When I do this one, we sing through the whole thing as it is above & then afterwards, we will sing a line w/ each child's name in it...

    Hello Samantha, how are you?
    Hello Carlos, how are you?
    Hello Avery, how are you?
    How are you today?

If it' names you want to include I remember one: Good morning, Johnny, how are you? You're our friend, and we like you! Good Morning Heather, how are you? You're are friend and we like you!"

Variations could be 'Good morning Alice, how are you? You wearing stripes today, and we like you!"

A favorite greeting and goodbye song is John Taylors Friends song:'

Friends, friends, 1,2,3,. all my friends are here with me!
(point to the children one by one) use the hooking of index fingers together t make the friends sign in American sign language. Then the song continues: While pointing to children specifically "Your'e (or Johnny's) my firend, Susies my friend, Joeys my friend! Friends, friends, 123, all my friends are here with me!

    In Spanish:

Amigos, Amigos, uno, dos, tres! Todos mis amigos estan aqui! Tu eres mis amigos, Jonny es mis amigs, Mary es mi amigo. Amigos, Amigos, uno, dos, tres, Todos mis amigos estan aque! Hola Amigos!

I have a new one that I tried and the children just love it. It's not an original idea from me. I don't remember where I learned it- I may have even gotten it from someone on this message board!

It's sung to the tune of Frere Jacques (Are You Sleeping?)
Teacher: Where is Grace? Where is Grace?
Grace: Here I am! Here I am!
Teacher: How are you today, Grace?
Grace: Very well, I thank you.
Whole class: Yes, indeed. Yes indeed.

This is the one that we sometimes use..
    Hello! How are you?
    Hello! How are you?
    Hello! How are you?
    How are you today?

It's good to see Tenny back!
It's good to see Ana back!
It's good to see Daisy back!
    How are you today?

    It's good to see...Louella back...
You continue with the rest of the children's names until you are done with the whole class.

(This is done to the tune of "Skip To My Lou" too.)

I found the Good Morning Boogie on this sight. It seems very cute. The movements are also very exiting. Does anyone know the tune?

This is not really a hello song, but uses their names in a fun way that keeps their attention. Like Taliesin's song, the tune is Frere' Jacques.

Stand up Tom, stand up Dick, stand up Harry, stand up Jane.
Reach up for the sky, oh so very high
Now sit down, on the ground
(can substitute other motions for reaching)

We do the same song but a different version...

    Hello! How are you?
    Hello! How are you?
    Hello! How are you?
    How are you today?

It's good to see Alex back..
It's good to see Sophia back...
It's good to see Tenny back...
    How are you today?

Cont. until you've sang all their names

    I really love "Barney's" version...

The more we get together, together, together,
The more we get together, the happier we'll be.
Cuz your friends are my friends and my friends are your friends,
The more we get together, the happier we'll be.

I know you don't insert any names, but you could add, something like:

Hello to John, hello to Victor, hello to Anna, etc...and so on going around the circle.

This is constructed upon the tune of "If you're happy and you know it" though slightly different:

    Hello, Everybody, Hello
    Hello, Everybody, Hello
It's so nice to meet you, so nice to greet you
    Hello, Everybody, Hello

(then we go into this cheer - complete with clapping the rhythm)

    H - E - L, L, O
That's the way we spell Hello
    H - E - L, L, O
That's the way we spell hello!

    Shout: Hello!

    **

It gets the blood pumping and, strangley enough, brings them into order.
