Hi, Just wanted to know if anyone here is apart of a "green school" I am doing a project for a masters class and want to focus on how teachers handle the day to day running of a green school. If anyone has any info on this topic or anything related to green schools, I would really appreciate it.
    :thanks:

Okay, if no one is part of such a school, I have another question for all. Does your school do anything to teach kids about conservation and saving the environment? Do you wish they did?

I am not sure if we are a green school, but most of our school is run by solar power, and all our water is conserved recycled and we only use rain water. Our lights are sensored so they will shut down if no one moves. All our classrooms have HUGE windows to allow light in all day. We do use other means of power, but most comes from solar. We teach our kids about the enviorment and try to get them to have action. They even bring up the trash and trees and how we have to save them. They started a save a tree club.

WE are far from a green school, but we do have the lights that go off if there is no movement in the room for x amt of time. Personally, I turn them off as soon as we leave (b/c an empty room with lights on for 10 or 15 min is a waste of energy!) but it doers help for those who dont turn lights off or forget!
I also do my part to keep lights off when it is sunny out, however I admit to closing the blinds when it is really hot ot because the shade keeps the room cooler (no AC)
We do have recycle bins for paper only (there is a bin for cans in the teacher room).
I always do a mini unit on helping the earth during earth day.

Not even close! It is so sad. I do my best to instill in students a sense of environmental responsibility.

I seriously considered starting a environmental club this year, but I decided it would be rather stupid of me to take on such a task when finishing my master's degree. Next year...I'm all over it! I've already started collecting research to present to the principal.

What bothers me most is that our school uses styrofoam trays and many other plastic organizers and bowls during lunch. If you have a tray already, then you don't need another little paper "boat" for your french fries...they should go directly onto the tray. It is just ridiculous. Nothing in the school is recycled except for the paper I personally haul away from my classroom to my local center.

we recycle our styrofoam trays. We have one trash can for trash and the other for the trays. All the food is put on the tray as well.
