I was at the Target Dollar Spot today and found GREAT plastic bins to use as book boxes (browsing boxes...). They are really supposed to be for file folders, but will work really well for me for the kids' books that they check out from my library. Bought 30 for a buck each!!! They come in black, blue, and red. Sure beats my cardbaord ones from IKEA that I used last year. So excited I had to share.

I was just at Target yesterday and they don't have the teacher stuff out yet! :( The dollar section is full of snacks and fireworks.

    Beth,

I got the file holders also, aren't they AWESOME. I used them last year for the kids to keep their practicebooks, library books, and notebooks in. It was wonderful. No lost library books, no destroyed practice books, no missing writing notebooks. I was so in hopes that they would have them again this year since I had to replace a few that got knocked off the desks enough that they ended up getting cracked and broken. This year one of the rules is going to be put your things away and your book bin under the corner of your desk.

OMG, Melissa, I can't get over that they're only a dollar!!!!

I went to 3 targets to get them. Only one of the 3 had them out (and had one measley one), the next didn't have any out, and the final one I called and they had them in the back. You may want to do that first. Here are the numbers on the tag: UPC 810655013672, above the upc is this number: 234 24 096. Maybe that will help. The ones here supposedly all have them, just may not be out yet.

Yeah Beth, lovemyjob posted the number for me in another thread. I went to the Target in the next town over and they were stocking the dollar section. I didn't see them so I asked the girl, she sent one of the others (she was the "spot supervisor") to the back to get them. They had 28, I got all of them just so I would have extras available. I checked out the "file holders" under plastics @ www.reallygoodstuff.com and they were 15.99 for 4. Different colors than the ones Target had but look just the same otherwise. My kids last year thought they were cool because we were the only class that had them. I told them it was because they were a special class and were going to take good care of their books. They bought it.

I was just there yesterday, and all they had was craft supplies, stickers and stamps. I'm sure I'll use them some time. Hopefully soon, they will have more! I could really use plastic bins, as I am trying to re-vamp my library so it looks like Beth Newingham's !! She is a goddess!!

Do you find they tip over at all? They look a bit wobbly.

    Jem,

They wouldn't tip over unless a kid forgot to put them onto the floor under their desk like they were supposed to. That is the reason that they are going to have the rule during morning routine this year to do their normal things and to put their bin under the corner of the desk.

Our section was bare (I was just there despite the fact that I said I wouldn't go!) There was a cart with some of the teacher stuff in it and I pulled out two more pocket charts that I will use for centers. They did have cute little name tags with sports, monkeys or stars on them. I don't use those though because we have tables.

I finally broke down and went to Target this evening (I'll confess I went to Dollar Tree this morning) and found a lot of teacher stuff. I bought the almost-cute hall passes (I shudder at pink for girls and blue for boys), lots of stickers, workbooks I can use for PAT activities, several card games and sparkly buttons.

This is more addictive than VistaPrint.

My Target store has 75% off of black dotted dollar items. So, for a quarter I bought tons of things to use as prizes! Pens, pencils, glitter glue, keychains, small toys, etc....

I went to target today and was told that I'd need to ask a manager to check the backroom for me so I looked... and looked... and asked... and asked.... and then came home and ordered some from classroom direct. Their loss!

I actually saw those when I was buying my 3-section table supply bins, but couldn't figure out what I would use them for besides magazine storage! (That & I was out of money!) I'll have to find an excuse to go back to Target really soon!

BethMI - I love your Beanie Strategies for Decoding. What do the signs say exactly? Do you think 5th grade is too old for that?

Katenar, if you pm me with an e-mail address I can send them to you. I did it in PrintMaster. They are things like: Chunky Monkey-Look for chunks you know, look for prefixes, suffixes you know.

I think there are kids in 5th who need them!!! They're still into stuffed animals, beanies, etc. in 5th, right? If so, then no, I don't think they're too old. It's just a cute reminder of decoding strategies. There are also comprehension ones, which I still have to print and mount.

The site I got them from has "closed" this part b/c she had to comission someone to draw the beanies-she can't distribute the posters over the net with clipart. Although I am sure others have them too.

In the dollar spot-usually at the front. They have all kinds of teacher stuff there right now. You may have to ask for them, though.
